The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) focuses on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.

We seek a creative Associate Scientist in the field of Immune-Oncology to join our Lymphoid biology team within the Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center at Bristol Myers Squibb in Redwood City, California. The successful candidate will play an essential role in the discovery of novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer.

Position Summary:

This individual contributor role will collaborate across groups to plan, execute and analyze preclinical discovery studies.A wide range of ex-vivo and in-vitro model systems including human tumor assay systems, MLRs, cell culture, PBMC based isolations and cultures will be used. The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and team-oriented individual that possesses the ability to work in a multi-functional team environment. You will gain and provide technical and scientific expertise to advance a variety of drug discovery programs from targetidentification/validation,to IND enabling activities and ultimately to clinical Proof of Concept in patients.

Ideal candidates will havestrong technical skills,immunology background in characterizing the tumor microenvironment and possess excellent communication skills with a strong commitment to scientific objectivity and excellence.We value both what you do and how you do it.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and executing in vitro functional assays to assess killing/activation in the context of drug discovery

  • Immune profiling of cultured immune cells and tumor infiltrating leukocytes using multi- parameter flow cytometry

  • Designing and executing ex-vivo functional assay using primary cells of human origin (E.g., blood, tumor)

  • Analyzing and presenting scientific results to team meetings

  • Working in a collaborative team environment

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • BS (3+) or MS (0-2 years) in biology, immunology or a related discipline.

  • Industry and/or academic experience is desired.

  • Experience in multi- color flow cytometry is essential

  • Expertise in immune cell isolation from human peripheral blood

  • Expertise in in vitro functional assays to assess killing/activation in the context of drug discovery

  • Experience in ex-vivo functional assay development using primary cells of human origin is desired

  • Working knowledge in cytokine assessment from culture supernatants using MSD/ ELISA is optional

  • Experience with data capturing and analysis software (i.e. Flowjo, PRISM, Excel).

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with internal and external colleagues fostering a collaborative workplace environment.

  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational, and record-keeping skills.
