Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic protein biochemist/engineer to join the Protein Engineering group as a Senior Associate Scientist. The Protein Engineering group develop and optimize novel antibody-based biotherapeutics to drive specific responses in disease states, in close collaboration with other Discovery Biotherapeutics and Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) scientists. The candidate will contribute to the protein engineering projects to design, characterize, and optimize novel protein-based therapeutic candidates to modulate immune responses against cancer. The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual who possesses the ability to work across a highly matrixed environment to advance preclinical drug development programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication, capable of presenting scientific results to multidisciplinary project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support protein engineering efforts to generate and optimize designs for the discovery of novel antibody-based biotherapeutics.
  • Design constructs, purify proteins, and assess their design and function through functional assays.
  • Develop and implement in vitro cell-based assays to support the discovery of large molecule drug targets.
  • Present scientific results and program updates to project teams.
  • Accomplish goals under project team timelines.

Requirements

  • B.S. in biological sciences with 5+ years or M.S. with 2-5 years of relevant academic or industry experience.
  • Demonstrated independence in experimental design, execution, data analysis and troubleshooting is required.
  • Hands-on experience in protein expression and purification on AKTA instruments is required.
  • Hands-on experience with cell culture techniques including isolation and culture of immortalized, primary human and mouse cell lines is required.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-color flow cytometry is required and cell sorting is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of in vitro biochemical and cellular assays, including Western blotting, ELISA, cellular reporter assay is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with analyzing antibody sequence and structure is a plus.
  • Proficiency in utilizing software such as GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, Microsoft Office etc. for data analysis and figure generation is required.
  • Basic understanding of any disease biology is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and interact effectively with colleagues is essential.
  • Attention to detail with excellent organizational and record keeping skills is required.
