Associate Scientist

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic scientist with experience related to high throughput automation or screening technologies to join the Antibody Platform Technology team at an Associate Research Scientist level.

The APT group supports the development of novel therapeutic and tool antibody molecules with responsibilities related to protein expression and purification, as well as hybridoma generation and screening. The candidate will be part of a cross-functional team that is responsible for the development, optimization, and support of automation workflows both for the APT group and for the greater RWC BMS research community.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Work with researchers to learn about pain points and identify opportunities for developing automated workflows
  • Develop and optimize automation methods.
  • Work with stakeholders to adapt and validate manual assays to a high throughput environment
  • Operate automation systems for hybridoma generation and screening, as well as protein expression and purification
  • Conduct regular calibration and maintenance on automation equipment
  • Work cross-functionally to support initial characterization of therapeutic and tool antibodies in high-throughput workflow
  • Troubleshoot problems with hardware and software as needed
  • Maintain and ordering laboratory consumables for a diverse set of automation systems and instruments in a shared automation laboratory


  • BS or MS degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related discipline and experience with laboratory automation, ideally related to protein expression and purification methods or antibody discovery.
  • Experience programming or operating liquid handlers
  • Must have the ability to generate, understand, analyze, and present detailed assay data including but not limited to inter- and intra-assay controls using visualization software (ie. Excel, Prism, Spotfire)
  • Successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to maintain clear and concise records while managing multiple projects
  • Successful candidate must have excellent written, oral, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with tissue culture and sterile technique is a plus.
  • Experience with techniques used to measure antibody-antigen interactions (e.g., ELISA, FACS, HTRF) or experience with protein expression systems would be a plus
  • Experience with laboratory automation scheduling software and knowledge of a programming language (Python/R) a plus
