This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the sourcing strategy for one or more global procurement categories and for providing strategic direction and guidance for all procurement activities within the category.

This role will work with all stakeholders inside and outside of Supply Chain to ensure that there is an aligned category strategy and execution plan.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategy

  • Establish and maintain market intelligence and supplier-base knowledge by identifying relevant competitors, obtaining competitive pricing, and understanding production processes and technology.
  • Stay current on alternate global supply sources, pricing trends and supply / demand situations that could impact Emergent’s operations.
  • Identify opportunities to create value and develop creative, mutually beneficial solutions with suppliers.
  • Identify future supplier requirements based in internal stakeholders (Quality, R&D, BUs, etc.) and external forces and develop plans to meet those requirements.
  • Sourcing, Negotiation, and Contracting
  • Lead sourcing activities in the category, delegating to Procurement Managers and Category Managers, as appropriate.  Ensure that all stakeholder needs are considered.
  • Lead supplier negotiations, discussions, and selection for goods and services within the category, delegating to Procurement Managers and Category Managers, as appropriate.
  • Ensure contracting for goods and services within the category is done in conjunction with internal stakeholders (user base, Legal, etc.).
  • Supplier Management
  • Coordinate the relationship between Emergent and suppliers within the category.  Ensure supplier meetings include discussions on performance measures and improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for supplier performance and rating based on Key Performance Metrics (KPI) for Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Develop partnerships with strategic suppliers.
  • Build relationships with key suppliers to assure competitive price, high performance, support, and supply.
  • Risk Mitigation, Cost Reduction, and Service Improvement Initiatives
  • Develop and execute a pipeline of recurring cost savings projects in line with Global Sourcing and Procurement savings objectives.
  • Lead risk identification and mitigation activities for the category in conjunction with key stakeholders (Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, etc.).
  • Actively search for and implement performance improvement opportunities by understanding customer needs, supply market trends and innovation
  • Lead budgeting and financial forecasting activities for the category.  Negotiate with vendors to minimize annual cost increases.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
•    Bachelor's degree in Eng, Science or related field required.  MBA preferred.
•    10 years of procurement experience within the Pharma or related industry.  5 years of relevant category management experience.
•    Global contract negotiation experience and demonstrated YOY cost savings is required.
•    Demonstrated experience in successfully working in a matrixed environment.
•    Excellent decision making, analytical, problem solving, team building, coaching and change management skills
