About IDEAYA Biosciences:
IDEAYA Biosciences (NASDAQ: IDYA) is a public, clinical-stage synthetic lethality-focused precision medicine oncology company committed to the discovery and development of targeted therapeutics for patient populations selected using DNA sequencing and other molecular diagnostics. Our approach integrates extensive capabilities in identifying and validating translational biomarkers with small molecule drug discovery to select patient populations most likely to benefit from the therapies we are developing. We are applying these capabilities across multiple classes of precision medicine, including direct targeting of oncogenic pathways and synthetic lethality – which represents an emerging class of precision medicine targets. We believe this diversified approach will enable us to deliver the right medicine to the right patient to drive a more robust clinical response.
IDEAYA recently announced a landmark strategic partnership with GSK in Synthetic Lethality for certain pipeline programs. The GSK partnership is transformative and enables IDEAYA and GSK to collectively build an industry leading platform and pipeline in Synthetic Lethality. Position Summary:
IDEAYA Biosciences is seeking a Principal Computational scientist to join our Bioinformatics team and focus on our clinical and late-stage pre-clinical programs. This individual will design and lead all computational analyses for these programs to help guide our clinical strategy and enable timely decision making.  The role will have a heavy focus on the analysis of clinical and pre-clinical RNAseq and WES data.  Additionally, the role will require strong skills in multivariate methods to analyze and interpret multi-omic data in the context of drug-response datasets. The ideal candidate will enjoy working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment on a range of challenging and exciting scientific problems. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in translational bioinformatics, work on exciting clinical programs, and develop project leadership skills.

What you’ll do:

    • Lead computational analyses for clinical and late-stage pre-clinical programs
    • Carry out standard and complex differential analyses of omics data amongst a wide array of samples
    • Apply and develop algorithms for biomarker discovery to assist in patient stratification and translational research
    • Interface with scientists and key stakeholders throughout the organization to accelerate and enable timely decision making
    • Clearly communicate and present results to project teams and the larger organization
    • Develop working knowledge of cancer biology underpinning IDEAYA projects to facilitate communication and more rapid analyses

Personal Strengths:

    • Ability and desire to lead projects independently
    • Ability and desire to multi-task and work collaboratively on multiple projects
    • Problem solver and self-starter who is passionate about their own career growth and development
    • Team player who is comfortable playing supporting roles when necessary
    • Clear communicator who can work closely with scientists and non-technical team members

Requirements:

    • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or associated field
    • 3+ years of industry experience
    • Experience with human RNAseq (bulk or single cell) and WES or WGS data
    • Strong working knowledge of linear modeling, regression techniques, and associated statistical tests
    • Experience building and validating multivariate models with multi-omic data sources
    • Experience with secondary NGS analysis and a strong working knowledge of alignment algorithms and variant calling
    • Experience with tertiary NGS analysis, variant effect prediction, and downstream pathway analysis
    • Experience with oncology-based omics data and data resources such as TCGA and DepMap
    • Strong familiarity with standard bioinformatic data resources such as ensemble, uniprot, pfam, etc…
    • Proficient in Python/R data processing and usage of bioinformatic packages
    • Proficient in visualization and presentation of complex data
    • Proficient with usage of cluster and or cloud computing resources
    • Familiarity with version control and software engineering best practices

Nice to have requirements:

    • Experience working with clinical datasets
    • Experience with RNAseq based splicing analysis
    • Experience with scRNAseq
    • Experience with functional genomics datasets (e.g. CRISPR screening)
    • Experience with variant annotation resources (e.g. ClinVar, COSMIC)
    • Experience with non-linear modeling and optimization techniques
    • Experience with Bayesian methods and causal network modeling
    • Experience developing interactive UIs with python/R and or Javascript
