The Opportunity

As a Systems Engineer, you will interface across all functions of the organization, working to implement technical solutions to improve outcomes, from integrating new technologies in our labs, to hardening our infrastructure, to implementing automation to improve reliability.   

This role requires someone who is friendly, technically proficient, can multi-task,  enjoys being part of a team,  and thrives solving issues in a timely manner.  Occasional evening and weekend work will be required. Please note that this position will be onsite in our South San Francisco office.

You will be joining the founding team of a biotech startup that has long-term stability due to significant funding, yet is very much in formation. A lot can change in this early and exciting phase, providing many opportunities for significant impact. Job Description:
- Collaborate with staff across the organization to define and deliver technical solutions that are fit for purpose and fit for use
- Perform routine administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Maintain the integrity and security of Windows systems using MDM and system hardening techniques
- Manage and monitor backups
- Create and maintain detailed functional and operational documentation
- Provide support to our staff for IT infrastructure and systems
- Develop scripts for administrative tasks and automation
- Communicate highly technical information to both technical and nontechnical staff
- Ticket and queue management 
- Self manage your schedule between supporting systems, infrastructure, and other responsibilities
- Proactively work to improve the IT experience
- Become familiar with all aspects of our IT environment to help support, maintain, and scale it
- Provide guidance and mentorship to others on the team
- Participate in scheduled off-hours monthly maintenance activities

About You
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role
- Demonstrated understanding of industry standards and practices, change management, troubleshooting, testing and validation techniques 
- Highly proficient with with Windows Desktop and Server, services and tools 
- Firm understanding of:
- Active Directory and other essential Windows-based services
- IT infrastructure, including Cloud solutions
- TCP/IP, network topology, segmentation, and load balancing 
- Computer, mobile, and network securityVirtualization platforms
- Powershell scripting and automationStrong interpersonal skills
- Confident presence
- Logical troubleshooting skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills 
- Driven to get things done
- Passion for making a difference in the world 

Nice to Have
- Experience with working in a regulated biological lab setting
- Experience with enterprise Mac and Linux system management
- Experience with network infrastructure management
- Relevant IT certifications
