AbbVie's Transformational and Translational Immunology Discovery (TTID) department is expanding its early discovery team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our team focus on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases through big data analysis of human patient datasets, high throughput in vitro and in vivo target validation processes, and screening for the best modality design to make a remarkable impact on patient lives. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly skilled, and dedicated individual with an immunology background and hands on laboratory experience on both in vitro assays and acute in vivo PD models. This position requires passion, attention to detail, hands-on experience, and teamwork.

Key responsibilities:

  • Understand and interpret the information generated from big data analysis
  • Identify and validate novel targets based on big data analysis and literature study
  • Design strategic plans to guide the selection and prioritization of identified targets
  • Develop and execute in vitro molecule and cellular assays to validate the target through gene editing and/or tool molecules
  • Develop and execute acute in vivo PD models to support target validation
  • Generate proof of concept data package to support Go/No-Go decisions using in vitro and in vivo target validation platforms
  • Plan and coordinate experiments with team members and cross-function colleagues
  • Maintain accurate and organized experiment records and laboratory notebooks
  • Analyze, interpret, and present data package in internal meetings



  • BS, MS or PhD in Immunology or related field with typically 10+ (BS), 8+ (MS), or 0+ (PhD) years of experience
  • Experience in in vitro functional assays with primary human/rodent immune cells and/or mammalian cell line cultures and assays
  • Hands-on experience with handling human blood samples and purification of various types of immune cells from human PBMCs with Miltenyi isolation kits
  • Hands-on experience with immunoassays including flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex and Western Blot
  • Experience wth FlowJo and Prism software
  • Experience in acute PD models and/or autoimmune disease models is a plus
  • Experience in autoimmune diseases including SLE, pSS, SSc, Sarcoidosis and IBD is a plus
  • Bioinformatics experience is a plus
  • Strong scientific curiosity with a passion for problem-solving and optimization
  • Strong organizational, planning and trouble-shooting skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment
  • Effectively communicate with team members and cross-functionally colleagues throughout the organization
