We are currently searching for a Bioinformatics Scientist to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services. This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Bethesda, MD.  

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Generate and optimize programs and scripts for the analysis of data; create programs and algorithms and develop computational infrastructure resources for organizing and parsing data from large and complex data
  • Optimize and maintain best practice pipelines to perform GWAS, PheWAS and process whole genome SNPsindelsSVs; impute genome wide genotypes using large scale reference genome panels
  • Develop and maintain databases and datasets for GWAS, PheWAS, EHR, and other raw and analytical result data
  • Provide detailed documentation of custom scripts
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently with other laboratory members
  • Develop or share tools via simple websites
  • Write complex queries to multiple databases
  • Perform data processing and data analysis with existing computational and statistical methods
  • Assist in evaluating and interpreting results for validity and scientific meaning
  • Work with staff on the development and maintenance of bioinformatics tools, scripts and pipe-lines for data
  • Develop scripts that analyze a variety of health-related data and combine data across different orthogonal data sets, such as EHR data, environment, 1 taxonomicalknowledge resources such as OMIM, human phenotype ontology, or Drugbank to aid in genomic analyses
  • Provide broad-based programming and analytic support for a wide variety cf bioinformatic and genomic research projects; write custom scripts to analyze public or data generated in the laboratory,
  • Assist researchers with running third-party software, interpret results, and summarize findings
  • Present analysis results at research conferences and meetings
