Our team in Boulder, Colorado is seeking a full-time Senior Director of Histology and Pathology. The Senior Director of Histology & Pathology reports directly to the Senior Vice President with responsibilities centered around management of the Histology and Pathology teams.  The focus of this role will be to; promote growth, ensure scientific rigor of services associated with pathology, histology, IHC, fluorescent and brightfield imaging and analysis projects, lead client interactions to guide study plan development and promote services.


  • Senior Director of Histology & Pathology, including Brightfield and Fluorescent Image Analysis teams and associated veterinary pathologist(s):
    1. Provide scientific leadership; uphold scientific rigor of processes and deliverables
    2. Oversee services offered; set pricing and timelines
    3. Promote and facilitate growth of department services (histology, IHC/IF, Scanning, IA, pathology)
    4. Ensure team personnel, equipment/hardware, software, and infrastructure needs are proactively met; be responsible for department expenses
    5. Lead improvements of team efforts, including increasing efficiency and quality of processes, deliverables, and communications
    6. Conduct performance reviews and further employee growth 
    7. Advocate for the Histology and Pathology teams
  • Organize appropriate subject matter expert(s) for client interactions to develop histology & pathology study plans, guide endpoint selection, promote appropriate services, and ensure scientific integrity; may also serve as subject matter expert.
  • Collaborate with internal team leads, principal investigators, scientists, pathologists, and analysts/technicians to meet project goals, including proper quality control of incoming specimens to the department.
  • Oversee laboratory-wide microscopy tools, including microscopes and slide scanners; assure appropriate routine preventative maintenance, regular cleaning, and training.
  • Record and interpret microscopic findings in animal tissues for non-clinical studies, including exploratory, efficacy, and safety assessments; interpret animal clinical pathology data; describe findings of histochemical, immunohistochemical or other molecular tests in experimental nonclinical samples, perform detailed measurements and cell counts; and integrate microscopic findings with image analysis data; may perform internal or external peer reviews.
  • Attend scientific meetings and continuing education seminars.
  • Conduct all work under applicable regulatory agency guidelines; read, review and comply with company SOPs, company best practices and company policies. 



  • D.V.M., V.M.D., or equivalent degree from an ECFVG-AVMA Listed Veterinary College
  • Board certification (anatomic) with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP)
  • Veterinary pathology (anatomic) residency training that includes experience in comparative or laboratory animal pathology
  • 10 + years of diplomate pathologist experience 
  • 3 + years working with digital pathology and computer based artificial intelligence systems 
  • 5 + years management experience

Salary minimum: $250,000 Annually and sign on bonus
