We are looking for a Sr. Director, Analytical Genetics to build a systematic program that explores and evaluates the potential of large datasets to predict human health and, through these predictions of individual and group outcomes, bring benefits to patients and individuals.

You will join a hard-working and rapidly growing team that combines expertise in genomics, biology, computation and medicine and that is performing and refining analyses that connect genetic variation to human diseases and health at a world leading scale. You will be expected to help us build and grow a group of talented individuals to tackle the problem of disease risk prediction and its applications, informed by genetic and other health data.

In this role, a typical day might include the following:

  • Develop statistical and computational methods and algorithms that use a combination of genetic and health data to make accurate and interpretable predictions about the health of individuals and groups
  • Responsible for the development and tools and strategies for communicating the results of these risk prediction algorithms to relevant partners, including both patients and physicians.
  • Collaborate with clinical, business development and scientific colleagues at the company to find opportunities to deploy these approaches and organize pilots that help us the hone and improve the approach.

This job might be for you if you:
  • Bring outstanding scientific rigor and a track record in the development of computational methods and their application to real world problems. Y
  • Are highly familiar with modern human genetic datasets as well as with machine learning methods and tools.
  • Have a strong work ethic and are proactive in providing solutions to foster scientific collaborations and drive projects forward within Regeneron.
  • Have ability to work in a highly interactive environment with a diverse team of colleagues.
  • Have outstanding communication skills to summarize and present new statistical methods and concepts and the results of human genetic studies to a variety of technical audiences, ranging from experts in statistical genetics and computation to experts in biology, drug design and medicine.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to more junior colleagues to help them develop their full potential and build new skills and abilities. The outstanding candidate will be able help teams of skilled individuals to consistently achieve high levels of motivation, enthusiasm and performance.
  • Are a motivated teammate with a desire to pursue genetic discovery in a multi-disciplinary environment.

To be considered for this role, you must have a PhD in Human Genetics, Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a related field, together with at least 10 years of research experience. A record in leading complex projects, whether focused on the development of statistical genetic methods and tools or in the analysis of rich human genetic datasets. Demonstrated leadership in relevant publications and patents or through the development of open source tools and methods. Demonstrated deep experience and leadership across one or more of the following areas: the analysis and interpretation of polygenic risk scores, analysis and interpretation of large scale genomic studies (whether genetic association studies or genomic studies of proteomics, RNA-sequencing, or metabolomics), development of tools and pipelines for processing and interpretation of DNA sequence data (whether for variant calling, quality control), statistical methods in the areas of association analysis, fine-mapping, phasing, imputation and/or modeling of population structure, mendelian randomization and data visualization. Experience in interaction with multidisciplinary teams that range from expertise in engineering to human genetics to biology is strongly desirable. Knowledge of how to organize development processes using modern programming languages (Python, C/C++, Java) and tools, highly preferred.
