Job Details

Company Description

Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.

Position

As part of Eikon’s diverse team of biologists, medicinal chemists, optical and automation engineers, and software engineers, you will design and deploy custom super-resolution microscopes and automated systems that will enable the exploration and quantification of Eikon’s high-content datasets.

About You

You are an adventurous, passionate, and creative Opto-Mechanical Engineer eager to apply your talents to empower a new way of discovering medicines in a highly interdisciplinary biopharmaceutical environment. You are excited about the challenges of developing cutting-edge hardware from the ground up to enable novel technologies and solve real-world problems, and you will bring to these challenges enthusiasm, high energy, intellectual curiosity, and technical excellence.

What You’ll Do

As  an Opto-Mechanical Engineer at Eikon, the candidate will fill a critical role for advancing the technology that enables Eikon scientific achievements.

The primary aspects of the job are:

  • Build, test, and implement the opto-mechanics of super-resolution microscopes, as well as, various engineering aspects of the automated system
  • Responsible for working with the engineering team to gather requirements, define specifications, develop and prove-out concepts, execute designs, select suppliers, and troubleshoot issues
  • Create work instructions, test plans, and reports
  • Additionally, this role will require providing manufacturing support to deliver systems to other internal groups and contribute to efforts to improve reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability of current and future designs

Qualifications

  • B.S. or more advanced degree in mechanical engineering or related field. M.S. preferred.
  • 5+ years industry experience
  • Experience with opto-mechanical design required
  • Familiarity with fundamentals of optical system design, specification, and testing strongly desired
  • Experience selecting and working with external suppliers for design, development, and production of complex assemblies with challenging testing requirements strongly desired
  • Experience with motion control is strongly desired
  • Advanced understanding of the production of complex instrumentation strongly desired
  • Broad instrumentation experience, including optics, thermals, vibration, fluidics, robotics, automation, or packaging are a plus
  • Strong communication skills, including sharing and accepting ideas with many sources required
  • Proficient in good documentation practices, with experience following product development processes
  • Capable of operating autonomously and disciplined enough to follow established best practices and guidelines required
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS or equivalent 3D modeling experience required
  • Strong understanding of mechanical tolerance analysis for precision assemblies required
  • Drafting experience and strong command of dimensioning/tolerancing per ASME Y14.5-2009 required
  • Machine shop experience strongly preferred
  • Basic software scripting experience a plus
  • Interest in biology and drug discovery a plus
  • Team oriented, flexible, able to adapt to rapidly evolving goals and challenges required
