ROLE SUMMARY

Sourcing & Enterprise Services (S&ES), along with other service offerings, delivers world-class procurement capabilities to Pfizer, partnering with internal Pfizer customers to ensure they receive maximum value for every dollar spent with Pfizer suppliers.We accomplish this by executing effective strategic processes, including category management, negotiation, contracting and active supplier management. The Vice President – PBG Procurement is accountable for the business performance and financial management of the S&ES PBG Procurement team. This position provides strategic direction to a global team of procurement professionals responsible for the leadership of procurement sourcing activities for the goods and services within the assigned spend categories including:

In addition, the VP PBG Procurement is accountable for the local in-market procurement sourcing and support to the commercial business units and enabling functions for the assigned categories as well as those managed by other GP sourcing teams. As a member of the Sourcing & Enterprise Services leadership team, and reporting to the lead of Sourcing & Enterprise Services, this role is responsible for leading leaders, driving continuous improvement in cost/cash/value, quality and supply of goods / services by external providers, ensuring that stakeholder requirements are met, and provider performance is measured and maintained at the appropriate service levels. The role requires extensive collaboration with other senior leaders to develop and implement transformational business and supplier strategies that drive increased value. The role requires frequent interaction with each of the commercial Business Units, Biopharma Operations, Finance, and the leaders of each of the Enabling Functions.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The key tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Define the strategic direction for Global PBG Procurement team on behalf of Pfizer

  • Operating within the assigned budget, accountable for defining the appropriate deployment of team resources to maximize value / team contribution to meet stakeholder’s needs and delivery of departmental commitments.

  • Lead, manage, direct, develop, and coach direct reports focused on global external spend categories and in-market procurement support with suppliers of goods and / or services to major internal stakeholders / functions, and create a team environment that drives high colleague engagement.

  • Interpret industry, supplier and spend category trends impacting Pfizer and develop innovative strategies and approaches to maximize the benefits or mitigate the risks as applicable.

  • Align the team’s strategies and objectives in support of Global Business Services priorities, key stakeholder and business unit’s long-term objectives and focus areas and the Pfizer Blueprint.

  • Assure direct reports and their teams appropriately develop aligned and meaningful global and / or regional category strategies which deliver and enhance value / benefits by Business Units, Operations, and key stakeholders.

  • Provide clarity, focus, direction, set priorities and objectives, and through effective leadership, enable direct reports and their teams to deliver upon category specific objectives and team targets.

  • Enable the team to establish and maintain a plan of action to achieve agreed to savings and value enhancement results, and effectively coordinate and collaborate across direct reports and their teams, the relevant stakeholders and other procurement colleagues to execute such plan.

  • Foster open communication and coordinate with other functions and impacted stakeholders to assure understanding and alignment of business priorities, enabling procurement strategies, mutually agreed implementation plans and compliance with the agreed sourcing strategies.

  • Assure category management, strategic sourcing, and supplier management processes are executed timely and effectively by the team to drive continuous improvement in total cost and value, supplier performance, and service levels for the assigned spend.

  • Assure local in-market procurement operations are executed effectively to source, as appropriate, local spend categories; implement global and regional strategies in market as applicable; and support the local stakeholders in all aspects of global procurement functional support as needed.

  • Develop appropriate risk management strategies to assure adequate supply and appropriate service level of Pfizer’s requirements, and maintain close integration with key functional groups and stakeholders in spend areas of shared interest.

  • Ensure clear objectives alignment between global, regional and local procurement operations leaders and local customer leaders for the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Utilize Agile and Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and collaborate with others to evaluate and improve the team’s operational efficiency and effectiveness, support needs, and to recommend organizational improvement opportunities and adjustments as appropriate.

  • Assure adequate stakeholder support to resolve any procurement related supplier performance issues in collaboration with the appropriate Procurement colleagues, platform and enabling functions, and key stakeholders.

  • Ensure procurement colleagues are executing work in accordance with all relevant Pfizer policy and procedures.

  • Support Pfizer’s Diversity and Inclusion objectives, as applicable.

  • Ensure appropriate utilization of Pfizer’s performance management tools and execute effective talent planning for all colleagues.

  • Work with S&ES colleagues to deploy professional development tools to continuously improve the leadership bench strength and organizational capabilities of the team.

  • Manages an operating budget of ~$22M and a team of 130+ resources across 40+ locations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required. MBA Strongly preferred.

  • Previous work in managing in a large complex environment at a global scale.

  • Proven success in leading highly skilled professionals who are leaders of leaders.

  • 15+ years relevant Procurement experience required.

  • Business English essential.

  • Advanced knowledge of strategic sourcing processes, procurement systems, policies and procedures and understanding of emerging technologies and supply markets alternatives impacting the procurement profession.

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
