What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Associate Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you’ll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is seeking a highly motivated non-PhD (Bachelor’s or Master’s level) Scientist with rodent handling and cell culture experience to support mechanistic and drug discovery metabolic disease related research. The ideal candidate will design and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments, and can demonstrate the ability to analyze, interpret and effectively communicate results. Candidate will work closely with manager and will collaborate with other Pfizer scientists to support IMRU portfolio projects and workgroup goals. Your significant experience of applying knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of the discipline will make you a critical member of the team. You are proactive in contributing to all team discussions and creating an environment of collaboration. It is your hard work and focus that will help in making Pfizer ready to achieve new milestones and help patients across the globe.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Plan, design and execute in vivo experiments. Comfortable handling and dosing (IP, SC, PO and IV) rodents. Blood and tissue collection.
  • Perform cell culture experiments.
  • Conduct molecular biology experiments such as but not limited to transfection, gene expression analysis, immunostaining, ELISA and Western blotting.
  • Capable of following assay protocols and analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Compliance to laboratory safety and electronic notebook standards.
  • Working effectively with peers to support projects and workgroup goals.
  • Identify and report any experimental problems, proactively troubleshoot causative factors, and implement necessary corrections following discussion with supervisor.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology or other related discipline with 2-4 years of lab experience in academia or in industry
  • Hands-on rodent handling, dosing, and tissue collection experience
  • Basic laboratory skills for standard cell and molecular biology methods including but not limited to cell culture, siRNA and plasmid transfections, immunoassays such as ELISAs and western blotting, and quantitative real-time PCR
  • Ability to use appropriate software to perform analysis of data
  • Experience with experimental design and the interpretation of results; ability to troubleshoot methodologies and results
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with personal computers, including word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software
  • Excellent organization and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with some cardiac related techniques such as: Echocardiography, primary cardiomyocyte isolation, IonOptix, Imaging, Force/pCa assay, OR metabolic disease related techniques such as: treadmill running, glucose/insulin sensitivity tests, calorimetry, in vivo skeletal muscle force and fatigue measurements.
  • Knowledge of metabolism and pharmacology (i.e. cardiac or skeletal muscle physiology)
  • Drug discovery experience

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to wear standard PPE (lab coat/safety shoes/glasses/etc).
