Scope of Timeline

  • December: Applications open
  • Mid- February: Application close (may still consider application if we have openings left)
  • February through March: Offers made
  • June through August: Internship period


Program Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age prior to scheduled start date
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to commit to the full 10-12 weeks’ time frame between June and August.
  • Interns will be expected to work 40 hours a week.
  • Candidates are eligible to apply to the internship within one year of their last degree attained.
  • We do not have a GPA requirement.
  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of accredited university or community college course work to be considered for an internship.
  • We currently do not offer visa sponsorship to interns.


INTERNSHIP PROJECT SUMMARY:  
Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated junior or senior undergraduate student to fill a position in Gene Therapy Process Development Department. The intern will work in part of a team of Scientists/ Engineers working in a preclinical phase II or III drugs and will be expected to perform analytical assays and present research data within the department. This role will provide the intern an opportunity to learn and work on advanced laboratory techniques.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design and perform purification of scalable proteins, knowledge of protein chemistry, preparative chromatography, and membrane separation techniques.
  • Perform protein purification using AKTA Pure/AKTA Avant/AKTA Ready using Unicorn software.
  • Isolation and purification using Dead end filtration and TFF.
  • Purified sample analysis using SDS-PAGE, HPLC, ELISA and ddPCR/qPCR methods.
  • Maintain and stock lab chemicals and consumables, buffer preparations and general lab duties.



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Actively pursuing a B.S. degree in Life Sciences such as Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, or other related biology or biological sciences. M.S. student preferred.
  • 0-1 year of relevant laboratory experience in an academic research laboratory or biotechnology company.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with good documentation skills.
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office, scientific creativity, and collaboration with others.



OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in laboratory techniques supporting protein purification
  • Solid understanding and experience with gene-editing techniques currently used for gene therapy products.
  • Experience and understanding with cell culture system using insect cells and human cells
