Scope of Timeline

• December: Applications open
• Mid- February: Application close (may still consider application if we have openings left)

• June through August: Internship period

Program Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age prior to scheduled start date
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must be able to commit to the full 10-12 weeks’ time frame between June and August.
• Interns will be expected to work 40 hours a week.
• Candidates are eligible to apply to the internship within one year of their last degree attained.
• We do not have a GPA requirement.
• Applicants must have completed at least one year of accredited university or community college course work to be considered for an internship.
• We currently do not offer visa sponsorship to interns.

INTERNSHIP PROJECT SUMMARY:  
Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking a motivated Summer Intern to support the development of analytical methods for Adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy products. In this role, the candidate will follow SOPs; perform, troubleshoot, and help optimization of the analytical methods to support a variety of Sangamo’s therapeutic programs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist in development and optimization of novel analytical methods such as digital PCR, qPCR, HPLC for the characterization of AAV-based drug products.
• Work with senior level scientist to ensure required documentation is accurate and complete.
• Contribute to routine laboratory organization of samples and reagents and maintenance of lab equipment.
• Help maintain lab space with routine cleaning and management of inventories.
• Participate and present data in internal or external scientific meetings and conferences and produce original peer-reviewed publications.
• Generate SOPs, method qualification plans and reports for review by senior staff.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

• MS in a Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent. The candidates who are enrolled in a PhD program are highly encouraged to apply.
• Relevant experience in a gene/cell therapy-based laboratory will be a plus
• Ability to execute experiments independently, troubleshoot molecular techniques and evaluate data of moderate complexity.
• Detail-oriented, organized with ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrated ability to document procedures and results and keep accurate detailed records.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficient in standard computer skills, familiarity with data analysis and statistical analysis software is a plus
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
