AbbVie Immunology is expanding its early discovery team in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The early Transformational and Translational Immunology Discovery (TID) in Cambridge, Boston and Worcester is focused on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases through computational analysis of human disease tissue derived datasets, and through validating targets using humanized experimental approaches. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual in translational and systems immunology that drives the discovery and prioritization of new and improved products through the portfolio through the creation, interpretation and analysis of deep molecular data. You will closely work together with multiple groups across the organization such as the Genetics Research Center (GRC) and their Functional Genomics team. This position requires passion, attention to detail, prior hands-on experience and teamwork.


  • Primary responsibility is scientific excellence in the space of systems immunology. The he/she will support of drug discovery through designing and applying state-of-the-art immunological methodologies to understand cellular signaling in complex in vitro model systems as well as in vivo.
  • He/she will have a widespread experience in the field of immunology, immune mediated inflammatory diseases as well as systems immunology and is able to train colleagues within the department of Transformational and Translational Immunology Discovery (TID) on this topics.
  • The individual will be a member of the therapeutic/functional area leadership team which is primarily responsible for portfolio advancement. The individual will ensure scientific excellence and the use of best practices across teams.
  • Shares responsibility for delivery of clinical candidates / technologies that facilitate delivery of clinical candidates. Identifies project targets and/or innovative technologies and prioritizes goals and milestones within the context of overall strategy, resource availability, competitive dynamics, and functional goals.
  • Will foster scientific and professional development of staff. Accomplishes long and short-term project goals in collaboration with director, group leaders, and project team members. Exemplifies advanced knowledge level, perception, and intuition across a broad range of scientific disciplines.
  • Clearly articulates and prioritizes scientific goals, reviews data produced by team members, educates and coaches.

  • BS, MS or PhD with typically 10+ (BS), 8+ (MS), or 0-5+ (PhD) years of (academic and/or industry) experience
  • Proven ability to innovate in systems Immunology / systems medicine.
  • Proven leadership skills (Academic or industry); proven ability to interact well with diverse groups across functions and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Ability to advise discipline experts and leaders across AbbVie on how to manage their particular risks.
  • Strong communication skills including: oral, in written, and in presentations.
  • Interpersonal skills capable of negotiating and reconciling interdisciplinary differences, optimizing overall Abbvie goals.
  • External/International recognition as a scientist in systems medicine / systems Immunology with recognized academic accomplishments.
