About the Role:
The Senior Director Facilities will be responsible to plan, direct and oversee facility operations, construction, and growth. This includes managing facility and equipment mechanical maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance, security, food, and janitorial services.  This role will report to the Chief Financial Officer.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Lead the global facilities strategy across the company.
  • Manage the site selection, design and construction of leasehold improvement projects and general facilities upgrades to guarantee on-time and on-budget completion.
  • Manage leasing and landlord relations for all GRAIL locations.
  • Manage lab and building infrastructure functionality for all GRAIL facilities.
  • Responsible for ensuring lab and building safety, power, HVAC, water, and waste systems are maintained and operational.
  • Ensure lab infrastructure and environment are in compliance with regulatory requirements and design specifications.
  • Represent GRAIL Facilities with regulators during audits.
  • Drive improvements to existing / new facilities to increase utilization and efficiency.
  • Responsible for the design, implementation, and execution of EH&S strategy and policies.
  • Manage the implementation of the COVID response team across all GRAIL sites.
  • Manage facilities urgent communications, emergency alert and evacuation processes and business continuity planning.
  • Owns and manages the facilities and EH&S budget and actual spend.
  • Ensures company compliance with all applicable local, state, and national codes and regulations and laws. 
  • Lead, develop and grow Facilities and EH&S team members with stretch targets and assignments and effective coaching to help individuals achieve their career goals.
  • Manage facilities projects and delegate across the team to ensure projects are completed on timeEffectively manage the Facilities and EH&S team to:
  • Effectively support the lab and warehouse to ensure uninterrupted operations
  • Collaborate and strategize with other departments such as Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Legal, R&D, Clinical Development, and IT to ensure company needs are fulfilled in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure employee safety is a top priority as we make decisionsCoordinate routine maintenance and repairs including support for our labs, offices, and common areas.
  • Drive equipment and furniture purchasing and installation
  • Manage vendor contracts, security, food, and janitorial services. 
  • Ensure all vendors and service providers are in compliance with GRAIL requirements details in the contracts

Your Background Will Include:
  • Experience leading and expanding facilities in life science labs in a regulated environment.
  • Bachelor degree and ten years minimum of experience in construction-related experience, or an equivalent 15 years combination of skill and experience.
  • Must have experience in project management and experience in tenant improvement work.
  • Experience relocating a company or working with contractors during a build-out.
  • Experience as a safety officer. 
  • Familiarity with lab safety manuals, including chemical hygiene plan, injury and illness prevention plan, etc.
  • Experience working with Federal, State and local agencies, including fire department, county to ensure compliance with local laws.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems are needed to perform the duties of this position.
  • Thorough knowledge in the areas of building space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, organization and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Experience at a fast-paced, growing company.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including good service orientation and effective problem solving.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership, functional leaders and across the company.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily activities effectively.
  • Must be a strong team player.
