We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and collaborative software applications engineer to support CGR's Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). If you have experience designing and deploying bespoke software applications, then come join our talented team of developers!

The Cancer Genomics Research Laboratory (CGR) investigates the contribution of germline and somatic genetic variation to cancer susceptibility and outcomes in support of the NCI's Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG), the world's most comprehensive cancer epidemiology research group. CGR is located at the NCI-Shady Grove campus in Gaithersburg, MD and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. We care deeply about discovering the genetic and environmental determinants of cancer, and new approaches to cancer prevention, through our contributions to the molecular, genetic, and epidemiologic research of the 70+ investigators in DCEG. Working in concert with the epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and basic research scientists in DCEG's intramural research program, CGR conducts genome wide association studies (GWAS), targeted, whole-exome, and whole-genome sequencing studies, including analysis of germline and somatic variants, structural variation, copy number variation, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and more.

The LIMS development team plays a critical role in supporting a laboratory of 75+ staff members at CGR performing cutting edge scientific research into cancer. This includes the development, and support, of new software tools and solutions to address CGR's growing informatics needs. CGR is a fast-paced, high-throughput, automated genotyping and sequencing facility is dedicated to genetic and epidemiologic studies for investigators at the National Cancer Institute's Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics. Staff work within functional teams that work in concert to achieve CGR's scientific goals.

CGR's LIMS is based on the LabVantage commercial platform and tracks all specimens received and processed at CGR (approximately 85,000 annually). Capture of biospecimen data used for downstream analyses is a vital part of the LIMS functionality. Additionally, LIMS workflows drive laboratory processing and store assay results. Equipment management and tracking, reagent and supply inventory monitoring, and standard operating procedure recording are among the many additional functions carried out by CGR's LIMS. This critical system is developed and maintained by a team of full-time developers.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for providing support in several key areas including:

  • Develop and maintain new functionality for CGR's Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Develop and maintain other web applications, as needed, that support the CGR's mission
  • Work with CGR laboratory, administrative, and bioinformatics personnel to develop and implement requirements for IT-based solutions that meets the users' needs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise with applications and software developed for and supported by the CGR

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
