AbbVie’s Immunology R&D organization is expanding its early discovery team at the Cambridge Research Center in Cambridge, MA. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join the Translational and Transformational Immunology Discovery team.  This scientist will specifically support the development of preclinical in vitro and in vivo models for Th2-type immune diseases with a focus on atopic dermatitis. Our team is looking for a candidate with existing academic or industry experience in working with Th2-type immune diseases.  Candidates will be expected to be well-versed in broad immune mechanisms that drive Th2-type immune diseases.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop models of adaptive and innate immune cells that mimic the pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis, EoE, and other human Th2-type immune diseases.
  • Work collaboratively and independently to develop the strategies for target validation and execute study designs.
  • Incorporate relevant external sources (literature, patents, conferences) and state-of-the art technologies and theories to guide novel model builds.
  • Process and analyze ex-vivo human and animal tissues for disease-relevant endpoints.  Candidates with knowledge of the following techniques will receive extra consideration: flow cytometry, PCR/gene analysis, protein/cytokine measures via ELISA/MSD, and other skin-related functional endpoints.
  • Contribute to the design and analysis of in vivo models of Th2-type diseases including designing and contributing to mechanism-of-action (MOA) studies. Experience in conducting efficacy testing of drug candidate molecules (large and small) is considered a plus.
  • An excellent understanding of IgE-mediated immune responses in humans and rodents is essential. The candidates should be experienced in in vitro culture techniques and isolation methods for primary human innate immune cells.
  • Interpret findings and effectively present scientific data, concepts, and recommendations to various internal audiences.  May attend or present at external conferences.
  • Author and review technical reports, protocols, manuscripts, and other key documents.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Work in AbbVie’s matrix environment and support activities in the Th2 disease area as needed, which may include acting as the functional representative for pipeline projects and leading new target proposals.


PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, or other biological sciences with typically 0-4+ years post-doctoral experience; or Master Degree or equivalent with typically 8-10+ years of experience; or Bachelor Degree or equivalent with typically 10-12+ years of experience
