Baebies, Inc. is an early stage in-vitro diagnostic company addressing unmet needs in infant healthcare. Baebies has developed two in-vitro diagnostic test platforms – Seeker and Finder – based on the digital microfluidics technology. The SEEKER is a high throughput test platform for newborn screening and the FINDER is a sample-to-answer test platform for near-patient use.
Position Summary
We are seeking an Engineer to join the Research & Development (R&D) team at Baebies. This role reports to the Director of Technology Development and will provide key engineering expertise to advance the development of Baebies’ clinical platforms. The ideal Engineer, R&D candidate will be immersed in a dynamic work environment and collaborate with scientists and other engineers to develop complex assay platforms. Personality traits most predictive of success in this role include unbridled scientific curiosity, deep-seated passion for solving problems and an enjoyment for learning.
Roles and Responsibilities
Design and build electronic components for prototyping and iterating R&D assay platforms
- Preparing detailed block diagrams, circuit schematics and component specifications
- Investigate, evaluate, and select electronic components
- Creating PCBA layouts, debugging
- Writing and integrating firmware
Design, characterize and optimize electrical components within FINDER’s optical, thermal and mechanical subsystems
Prototype design concepts and enhancements to support new features on Baebies’ next generation analyzers (e.g. miniaturization, ruggedness, cost reduction, etc.)
Generate and carry our testing plans to drive design iteration
Requirements
- BS in Engineering. 2 - 6 years relevant experience, preferred
- Highly proficient in circuit design, C programming, FPGA, Arduino prototyping
- Experienced with traditional and rapid prototyping processes
