ROLE SUMMARY

The Enterprise Platforms & Security (EP&S) team supports Pfizer's technology infrastructure services, ensuring highly available and secure communications throughout the corporation and with external partner organizations. EP&S secures Pfizer's most important information assets through world class protections that enable rather than limit critical business operations. As part of the Pfizer Digital organization, the EP&S team is a key enabler in Pfizer's ongoing digital transformation.

The Sr. Associate, Big Data Software Engineer role is to be a senior software engineer within Cybersecurity Analytics Team which provides big data capabilities, visualizations, advanced analytics, requirements consultancy and subject matter expertise to protect Pfizer from the ever-changing cyber threat landscape.

This colleague will lead the development and build out of our big data analytics environment, developing new ways of using our data to improve cybersecurity and working closely with analysts and business leaders in other parts of the Global Information Security to ensure we are enabling them to best protect Pfizer and enabling Pfizer’s purpose of breakthroughs that change patients' lives.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop and operate massively scalable at the petabyte level, resilient components for Pfizer’s big-data cybersecurity environment using open-source technologies across the AWS ecosystem
  • Ensure industry best practices are followed for data pipelines, metadata management, data quality, data governance and data privacy
  • Develop proof of concept solutions to show the use of advanced mathematical techniques such as machine learning to analyze real cybersecurity data to solve real problems.
  • Engage in building solutions leveraging technologies including but not limited to Python, Pyspark, Yarn, Apache Livy and AWS services: EMR, Lambda, SQS, API Gateway and AWS supporting services such as CloudFormation, CodePipeline, and IAM
  • Continuously refactor the codebase to ensure maintainability, testability, and performance
  • Actively perform code reviews and help evolve our code review guidelines to ensure quality code is shipped
  • Work in an agile manner delivering quickly, with exceptional quality and building a solution with minimal maintenance requirements while continually working to reduce technical debt

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, data science, mathematics, or other related STEM degree
  • 2-4 years’ experience as a software engineer in Python, Java, C or C++
  • 1-2 years’ experience with Python
  • Experience writing unit tests
  • Some experience with Pyspark, Spark or Hadoop
  • Willingness to contribute fresh and innovative ideas
  • High technical aptitude; quickly learns new skills
  • Change agile; must take action on project quickly
  • Team oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, computer engineering or a related subject
  • 5+ years’ experience as a software engineer
  • 3+ years’ experience with Python, some in Python 3.8 or higher
  • Experience working in an Agile Scrum team
  • Experience working on large software projects
  • Experience working with big data (petabyte scale)
  • Strong knowledge of AWS development/cloud/engineering standard methodologies
  • Experience with AWS Lambda, S3, EMR, API Gateway, AWS roles and policies and CloudFormation
  • Experience working in a development team using Git and Jira
