A San Francisco Bay Area biotech start-up company developing innovative technologies for the detection of infectious and genetic diseases is looking for a Scientist with extensive experience in assay development of nucleic acid testing technologies (NAT) and expertise in molecular diagnostics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in molecular biology techniques and chemical modifications in the development, optimization, and validation of molecular assays. The candidate will apply their knowledge and experience to lead R&D efforts to develop a rapid real-time SARS-CoV-2 detection and monitoring system.

 Required Experience & Skills:

  • A Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, chemical biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience focused on the design, development, optimization, analytical validation, and clinical validation of molecular assays utilizing NAT technologies
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in oligonucleotide chemical modifications with a deep understanding of key factors that affect assay performance
  • Bioinformatics background a strong plus
  • Project-oriented; candidate must be flexible and can work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Strong initiative with the ability and desire to drive projects to completion under tight timelines and
  • Ability to multitask by pursuing multiple research approaches simultaneously to achieve project goals
  • Ability to gather information and resources for self-directed troubleshooting and become an expert in the subject matter
  • Great attention to detail, strong organization skills, and good record keeping are required
  • Self-motivated and possess a strong sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability
  • Ability to communicate ideas and results clearly and effectively
  • Diligence in following laboratory safety guidelines and practices
