How you will Achieve More with Intellia

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will join a small team of engineers whose focus is the integration and ongoing support of a range of automated platforms across the research organization. You will spearhead development as part of a team of engineers to assess the needs of our scientists and automate assays utilizing our collection of liquid handling, sample storage, and fully-automated high throughput platforms. In this role, other key responsibilities include:

  • Working with scientists to develop User Requirement Specifications to coordinate experimental design, validation, and execution of new assays within agreed-upon timelines

  • Designing, implementing, and troubleshooting experiments as they are transitioned from bench to automation, both independently and in collaboration with scientists

  • Integrating workflows with our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

  • Bringing measurable metrics to existing workflows to track performance

  • Continually seeking out new technologies to increase throughput, and improve ease of use to optimize workflows, and improve approachability of our automation to the end users

  • Troubleshooting hardware, software, and user errors promptly and independently

  • Collaborating with our software team to improve traceability and ease-of-use

  • Discussing bottlenecks with the research team, identifying and independently implementing solutions to achieve group and company-wide goals on tight timelines

About You

Are you a natural problem solver? Do you have strong independent troubleshooting skills but have always wondered what it would be like to collaborate with a larger team?  Are you a fast learner who enjoys implementing lab solutions using automation? We are looking for a candidate with a B.S/M.S. in Molecular Biology, Computer Science, or Engineering disciplines with 4+ years of lab instrumentation hardware and/or software experience. The ideal candidate will have concrete programming language experience (Python, Javascript, C++, etc) and at least one liquid handling and/or scheduling software platform (Venus, Cellario, VWorks, GreenButtonGo, EVOware etc) an understanding of LIMS integration, liquid class parameter optimization, and a long track record of solving complex problems in a lab setting.

You will be joining our Automation team which is part of the broader AEGIS (Automation Engineering, Genomics, Informatics, Screening) team.  You’ll directly report to the Principal Automation Engineer whose small but quickly growing team possesses a wide-ranging set of skills learned over years of varied Biotech industry experience. Given the breadth of applications we support, the candidate will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of areas not just within screening and on existing platforms, but also in exploring new equipment in collaboration with the Chemistry, Process Development and Delivery Sciences teams in support of Intellia’s gene-editing pipeline.

The team is currently working onsite therefore, candidates who apply should be local to Cambridge, MA, or open to relocating. While much of the day-to-day operations require wet-lab work, our team is focused on building not just technical expertise but fostering an environment for the growth of our people and the development of their skills, spanning across engineering, software, and biology.
