About Us:

Vaxart is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing a range of oral recombinant vaccines based on its proprietary delivery platform. Vaxart vaccines are administered using convenient room temperature-stable tablets that can be stored and shipped without refrigeration.

Vaxart has demonstrated that its proprietary tablet vaccine delivery platform is suitable to deliver recombinant vaccines, positioning the company to develop oral versions of currently marketed vaccines and to design recombinant vaccines for new indications. Its development programs currently include tablet vaccines designed to protect against coronavirus, norovirus, seasonal influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), as well as a therapeutic vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV), Vaxart’s first immuno-oncology indication.

Our mission is the promotion of global health through the development of effective vaccines that can be administered by tablet rather than by injection, providing for the simple and efficient distribution and administration of safe vaccines in any setting.

We are looking for a VP/SVP to join our growing South San Francisco team!

Summary:

The VP/SVP, HR drives company culture and organizational strategy to ensure alignment with Vaxart’s business goals and objectives, while fostering productive and positive cross-functional relationships at all levels of the organization. The CPO leads the entire People function, serves as a trusted business partner to management, and is an expert advisor to the leadership team on all People matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the entire Human Resources function, including employee relations, performance management, recruitment and retention, employment law and compliance, training and development, and compensation and benefits.
  • Successfully drive sustainable and scalable Human Resources and Talent Management programs.
  • Directs short and long-term program departmental planning and development which includes but is not limited to resource allocation and budget ownership
  • Leads a highly effective HR team. Challenge, coach, and develop staff.
  • Acts as a strong, forward-thinking business partner and advisor to executives and key stakeholders in developing goals and strategies that increase the impact of our people across the organization and function as an expert on organizational issues.
  • Acts as a key advisor to the leadership team and provide thoughtful and strategic counsel on managing complex organizational changes to drive results.
  • Partners with leadership to scale a world-class culture and successfully implement strategic and innovative human capital solutions supporting business growth and transformation.
  • Works closely with department leaders to ensure that inclusion, diversity, and belonging are integrated into Vaxart’s core processes and practices.
  • Identify key Human Resource trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Drives measurable improvements in the employee experience across Vaxart, improving metrics such as employee satisfaction, productivity, and/or retention.
  • Works with the leadership team to design and implement leadership and management development training programs and succession planning.
  • Provides strategic leadership to Vaxart’s onboarding and learning & development programs, with a particular focus on developing leaders and first-time managers.
  • Leads the evaluation, implementation, and management of HR systems.
  • Ensures that strong controls are implemented and maintained to help ensure corporate compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, or related discipline required. Advanced degree desired.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent certification required.
  • 15+ years of HR experience, with a minimum of 3 years at the Sr. Director or VP-level.
  • Strong background in all facets of HR, with experience in both high-growth start-ups and mid-sized to larger organizations.
  • HR experience in a publicly traded company required.
  • Must have experience managing employee stock option plans.
  • Extensive human capital and cultural transformation experience with a proven ability to demonstrate measurable results utilizing analytics and metrics.
  • Visionary leader with proven ability to create and implement HR strategies while simultaneously executing HR activities.
  • High integrity with the ability to support and champion Vaxart’s vision and mission.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Proven experience in change management within a highly complex environment.
  • Strong managerial, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, decision making, problem solving, negotiation, and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation).
  • Extensive CA and federal employment law experience required.
  • Ability to manage expectations, processes, and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to use judgment and diplomacy when interfacing with a diverse employee base.
  • Demonstrated success in creating strategic direction/plans and proven ability to drive and sustain business improvement and results; strong business acumen required.
  • Experience coaching/guiding senior leaders within an organization.
  • Ideal candidate will possess diverse HR experience across multiple key business functions (e.g., research, development, manufacturing, marketing, sales, finance).
  • Demonstrated success in creating strategic direction/plans and proven ability to drive and sustain business improvement and results; strong business acumen required.
