ROLE SUMMARY

The Director, Global Corporate Accounting is responsible for the strategy, resources, and global operational oversight of the Record-to-Report (R2R) Corporate Accounting Team. The role will provide leadership for US-based R2R accounting, including its support of US & Canada markets with activities such as Manual Journal Entries, Balance Sheet Reconciliations and Analytical Reviews, Financial and Supplemental Reporting, and Audit Support.  The Lead will have end-to-end ownership over all General Ledger accounts for the US & Canada and support US-specific processes such as escheatment, government reporting, gross to net accounting, and employee benefit plan accounting. Additionally, the Corporate Accounting Lead will provide global oversight for specific technical accounting processes, such as lease accounting, specialized capital accounting, Pfizer Foundation & Non-Consolidated Accounting, Third Party Royalty Accounting and Vaccine Accounting. The Lead will work closely with the Global Close Center of Excellence and other business partners to deliver a smooth, on-time period-end close. Key business partners include: Vice President BioPharma Finance, Vice President PGS Finance, Global Finance & Operations Leads, Order to Cash Global Process Owner, Procure to Pay Global Process Owner, Vice President Controllers, Vice President HR Global Benefits, Statutory, Payroll, Corporate Services Global Owner, Vice President & Corporate Secretary, Chief Counsel Governance, Vice President Tax Operations, Vice President & Assistant Treasurer, Senior Director Enabling Finance, Global Close Lead, Vice President Enterprise Systems CORE Services, Transformation & Project Management Team, Digital Team, and External Service Providers. In addition, the Lead has responsibility for ensuring global in-scope projects – including Digital and other transformation/optimization activities – are successfully implemented and operationalized, and that keen focus is placed on developing current and future talent within the organization. The Global Corporate Accounting Lead is an active member of the global R2R leadership team.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and management of end-to-end Record to Report (R2R) function activities (e.g. journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and analytical reviews, reporting) for all General Ledger accounts for the US & Canada markets. Accounts include: Prepaids & Deferred Charges, Deposits / Advances, Other Revenue and Expenses, Other Liabilities, Tax Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll & HR related accounts, Equity & Dividends, Investments & JVs, Step Plans & Intercompany Loans, Debt & Derivatives, Other Income/Deductions, Legal, Post Retirement Obligations
  • Provide leadership and management of end-to-end global Third Party Royalties Accounting and Vaccine Accounting
  • Provide leadership and management of end-to-end US specific accounting processes, including Gross to Net Accounting, FATCA reporting, escheatment, and employee benefit plan accounting
  • Provide leadership and management of end-to-end global technical accounting activities, including lease accounting and specialized capital accounting (ARO & Capital Interest and Intangibles & Goodwill)
  • Provide leadership and management of end-to-end global Pfizer Foundation & Non-Consolidated Accounting 
  • Act as a point of escalation for all people and processes and ensure activities are performed to a high standard of operational excellence, established service level agreements are met, and adhere to defined GBS process and control requirements
  • Effectively communicate with the Global Close Center of Excellence to monitor and escalate month-end progress and meet defined close deadlines
  • Act as a Business Partner to Finance organization and other business stakeholders and ensure hand-offs between teams are successfully met
  • Manage and provide strategic direction to a US-based team
  • Define and execute the short-term and long-term vision and strategy for the Global Corporate Accounting Team in alignment with the vision and strategy of Pfizer's GBS FS organization and the Global Record to Report organization
  • Challenge the status quo and champion new ideas to grow and lead the Global Corporate Accounting Team; Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement/strategic transformation and propose/develop/deliver innovative solutions so the R2R function can operate in an efficient and cost-effective manner and achieve targeted budget savings
  • Design and implement ways to streamline and standardize operations globally; Oversee the implementation of complex projects/issues which require experience and significant Record to Report technical abilities; Work collaboratively with business units and others to execute approved projects; Manage integration or project efforts related to acquisitions & divestitures
  • Coach and develop team members on technical and business issues, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources and competencies, strengthening the team’s credibility as business partner
  • Understand the functionality, interfaces and interdependencies of Pfizer’s financial processes and systems, and ensure the existence of adequate internal controls
  • Maintain complete and accurate work instructions and SOX related internal control documentation; Support the Internal and External audits and SOX compliance initiatives
  • Act as a site culture champion to instil, encourage, and manage Pfizer culture to all reporting colleagues in residing physical location

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required, Master’s degree preferred
  • CPA or equivalent (ACCA, CIMA) required
  • Minimum of 15 years of technical accounting required
  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Management and supervisory experience required
  • Practical experience of US GAAP required
  • SAP & HFM experience strongly preferred
