The Immunology organization within AbbVie's Discovery R&D function is seeking a highly motivated in vivo research scientist to join the Immunology/Fibrosis team at AbbVie, Lake County. Primary responsibilities include independently executing preclinical in vivo models of skin and lung fibrosis as well as mechanism of action and PK/PD studies. The ideal candidate will be able to design and troubleshoot in vivo pharmacology studies based on previous hands-on experience and foundational theoretical knowledge.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Competency in all aspects of rodent handling and treatment including IP, SC, PO, and IV dosing of small molecules and biologics in mice and rats.
  • Independently processing animal tissues and conducting downstream analyses.
  • Developing and optimizing new methods/techniques to generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. Strong problem-solving skills are required.
  • Using an electronic notebook to maintain records.
  • Working closely with his/her supervisor to schedule and prioritize workload to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Exhibiting excellent communication skills and the ability to present data clearly and thoroughly in both one-on-one interactions and group meetings.
  • Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary research team in an exciting, fast-paced environment under the mentorship of a supervisor.

Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Immunology, or a related field is required.
  • Associate Scientist I requires BS degree and no additional experience.
  • Associate Scientist II requires BS and 3+ years of related experience or MS and no additional experience required.
  • Experience in conducting in vivo pharmacology studies and background knowledge in immunology/fibrosis and drug discovery is desired.
  • Experience in ex vivo processing of tissues (homogenization, RNA extraction) and analyses (ELISA, MSD, PCR) is desired.
  • Highly developed communication skills and keen ability to engage internal and external team members in collaborative research.
