I. JOB SUMMARY

The Project Manager will work closely with cross-functional technical lead(s) to proactively manage projects in support of the CDMO business, Manufacturing Operations and its clients. This position requires collaboration with functional managers, senior management, subcontractors, and external/government funding agencies to ensure successful completion of project(s). The Project Manager is accountable for maintaining project budget/finances, timelines and meeting key contractual requirements and milestones.

  • Lead a cross-functional project team managing day-to-day operations and serving as the primary point of contact for the project (i.e., CMC activities like technology transfers, manufacturing and release of drug substance and drug product, mfg process improvements, validations, analytical method development, etc.).
  • Responsible for building effective cross-functional relationships (internally and externally)
  • Provide overall leadership (project team members, project governance teams, as applicable) and ensure team accountability for all aspects of the project and applicable subcontractor management. Maintain a project RACI.
  • Apply PMI project management best practices during initiation, planning, execution, control and close-out of projects.
  • Create and implement project plans/charters/governance and successfully overseeing their execution (strategy, scope, resources, communication, risks, decisions, priorities and milestones).
  • Facilitate effective cross-functional planning, meetings/discussions (Agenda/meeting minutes), identify and resolve conflicts and provide guidance/direction on critical project issues with project stakeholders.
  • Proactively recognize and resolve fundamental and unanticipated project issues, maintain risk log (including key decisions).
  • Establish and maintain project timelines (i.e., collecting cross-functional dependencies, resources, schedules, and delivery commitments to incorporate into one integrated Gantt) and financial forecasts/plans/tracking.
  • Performs critical path analysis and supports scenario planning for CMC deliverables.
  • With support from finance and BD/Sales, develop, defend and maintain project budgets and financial tracking aligned with contract/internal plans.
  • Support PMO Director in departmental best practices, performing other duties as assigned/required.
  • Clearly communicate project status (create/present slides) to Emergent senior leadership and clients.
  • Supports the project teams writing, review and schedule of CMC related regulatory documents and health authority interactions as appropriate.

 III. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

  •  Bachelor’s degree (Engineering or biological science); advanced degree in science and/or business is preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment with a minimum 3 years of project management experience
  • Certification in project management is preferred (i.e. PMP, CAPM, or equivalent)
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment is preferred
  • Experience in managing drug (small molecule), biologic, and/or vaccine development projects including government contracts and/or technology transfers are desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiating, influencing, and active listening.
  • Proven analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills are required to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Excellent team building and stakeholder relationship management skills are required, with the ability to establish rapport, persuade and effectively negotiate with management and key stakeholders.
  • Fluent with regularly used software applications of MS Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Project, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Teams) SharePoint, Visio, SAP and Smartsheet
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management
