We are currently searching for a Scientist- Molecular Biologist to support the NIH by providing work products and documents related to designing and executing plans in line with established work plans for Vaccine Immunology Program; developing new methodologies for the investigation of vaccine elicited immune responses; and developing new work plans and experiments and providing regular detailed reports on progress and by providing work products and documents related to performing complex laboratory tests; managing projects and experiments; investigating B cell immunology; collecting, processing and interpreting experimental data.

This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Gaithersburg, MD.  

 

Duties & Responsibilities

    • Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery (CAVD)
    • International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI)
    • HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN)  
    • George Washington University (Novel Clinical Trials)
  • Genetic sequence analysis
  • Design and execute experimental plans in line with established work plans for Vaccine Immunology Program.
  • Develop new methodologies for the investigation of vaccine elicited immune responses.
  • Develop new work plans and experiments in close consultation with the supervisor/Chief of the Vaccine Immunology Program and provide regular detailed reports on progress.
  • Present experimental finding at internal and external meetings with collaborators.
  • Interact with student, post-doctoral fellows, visiting scientists and technical staff on experimental design and laboratory-based techniques.
  • Perform the day-to-day running of the Vaccine Immunology Program and communicate fully with the Chief of the Vaccine Immunology Program on experimental results and design.
  • Plan, conduct, and complete investigations into vaccine elicited immune responses.
  • Design molecular or cellular laboratory experiments, including molecular cloning, in vitro transcription, DNA/RNA analysis, protein expression in microbial systems, and protein purification and plasmid engineering.
  • Evaluate new technologies to enhance or complement current research.
  • Research and recommend implementation to qPCR and multiplex PCR, DNA and RNA isolation and characterization methodologies.
  • Maintain precise and complete records of all experimental activities, to include methodologies, instrumentation, and findings for future reference.
  • Input accurate record of all research activities and findings in in-house databases and repositories.
  • Prepare routine status updates and outcome briefings to peer researchers and senior program executives.
  • Provide routine activity updates and briefings to senior researchers and program executives.
  • Maintain deep understanding of research methodologies and the latest trends and developments in molecular and cellular biological testing and research.
  • Consult with diverse, cross-functional stakeholder groups to identify opportunities, develop problem statements, and understand context to inform research strategies.
  • Provide input for software programs to support predictive modeling of molecular biological expressions.
  • Search scientific literature to select and modify methods and procedures.
  • Collaborate with professional and academic societies, associations and organizations to identify new approaches to diagnostic testing and prepare recommendations for adoption.
  • Produce final reports and presentations of experiments and findings for distribution internally among researchers and senior administrators.
  • Write scholarly articles for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals.
  • Develop and present original research findings and professional and scientific conferences and workshops.
  • Review and edit papers, reports, presentations, and articles produced by other researchers for distribution internally and externally.
  • Perform peer review of internally produced research findings and articles.
  • Develop and design new technologies, methodologies, and protocols.
  • Perform analyses that support external grant milestones and applications.
  • Perform complex laboratory tests, determinations and analyses involving multiple procedures and a variety of technical approaches.
  • Coordinate projects and experiments for internal and external collaborators.
  • Investigate B cell immunobiology including transcriptional, lineage and repertoire relationships of responses to vaccination.
  • Provide advice to lower-level laboratory staff.
  • Collect, process, and interpret experimental data.
  • Prepare written reports, funding documents, and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
  • Participate in several meetings and/or conferences to collaborate with scientific community and present research information on behalf of the Immunology Laboratory.

 Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a related field.
  • Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree, or five (5) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a science related field.
