About the role

Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who want to challenge status quo, and lead with the desire to work on novel ideas.  As a Director, SEC Reporting and SOX Compliance you will report to VP, Controller, to manage SEC reporting and SOX compliance, as well as perform technical accounting analysis, and provide other accounting support as needed. The successful candidate will have experience reviewing 10-Q’s and 10-K’s, supporting documentation, and SEC checklists.

What you’ll do

  • Oversee SEC reporting, review of tie-out, checklists, and new disclosure evaluation, etc.
  • Working with internal audit consultants, manage the Company’s SOX compliance program, including developing and maintaining documentation and process flowcharts/narratives and evaluating controls as processes change and/or new systems are implemented
  • Partner with the IT department on implementing and maintaining IT related internal controls including facilitating the testing of the quarterly ERP system upgrades and evaluating and supporting the implementation of SOX controls required for new systems
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors on SOX planning, walkthroughs, and control testing
  • Research, analyze and conclude on technical accounting issues, including the preparation of memorandums documenting the Company’s position
  • Review SOC-1 analysis for relevant systems
  • Manage internal audit consultants and optimize their engagements according to the budget

What we’re looking for

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting
  • 15+ years of accounting experience at a combination of Big 4 audit firm and publicly traded company required. Biotechnology or life sciences industry preferred
  • You will have a strong understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley compliant business processes and systems, and have experience with process flow mapping, design and documentation of controls, and controls testing
  • Strong understanding of SEC reporting and GAAP
  • Strong understanding of COSO framework, and experience applying the COSO framework in a manner that supports SOX compliance and operational efficiencies
  • Collaborative and consultative approach to building process discipline and financial controls in a publicly traded company
  • Proven ability to multi-task including managing the SOX implementation and maintenance with multiple inputs and workstreams
  • Knowledge of IT applications and controls, and experience with cloud ERP applications. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively across all departments and levels of the organization
  • Is flexible and adaptable - demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced working environment and work diplomatically and tactfully with others
