General Scope and Summary

The Senior Director, Medical Affairs Operations is responsible for providing leadership in the development and execution of Global Medical Affairs initiatives, including processes and systems. The successful candidate will cultivate cross-functional partnerships with Medical Science, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, Program Management, IT, Marketing, etc. to ensure strong working relationships are in place in order to best move the work forward.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Head of Medical Affairs to lead development of core scientific platforms, processes, and systems that ensure aligned global utilization of approved communications with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide leadership to Operations team members in support of key Medical Affairs strategic initiatives.

  • Partner with IT leadership in providing ongoing oversight of medical affairs systems (CRM, Core Sci Platform, analytics, and data visualization) to ensure medical reporting is accurate, timely, and meets necessary standards for compliance.

  • Partner with Commercial, Program and Portfolio Management, and Clinical Development teams to ensure annual strategic and tactical planning exercises are synchronized and aligned to appropriately define Medical Affairs areas of focus and work priorities.

  • Track Medical Affairs tactics and their impact through critical success factors and/or key performance indices.

  • Provide an internal communications framework within Medical Affairs and to improve the visibility to Medical Affairs work.

  • Work with Legal and Compliance to develop, organize, and maintain Medical Affairs standard operating procedures.

  • Work closely with finance business partners to provide functional oversight of Medical Affairs budget, including ongoing oversight of Medical Affairs spend against the annual operating plan budget.

  • Lead and support efforts to continually improve business practices processes and tools to achieve medical operational excellence.

  • Develop and lead team members to ensure consistent cross-functional communication and achievement of corporate, functional, and individual performance goals.

  • Represent SAGE at various scientific and clinical congress meetings.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, and the ability to identify issues and raise to key stakeholders in order to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs Operations.

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Business, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must possess excellent communication skills, relationship building capabilities, and proven ability to influence decision-making without authority.

  • Leadership skills, including a passion for working within multiple teams and proven ability to achieve results in a matrix organization.

  • Consistently and systematically collaborates with internal stakeholders to plan approach to bring meaningful value to healthcare providers.

  • Must be able to actively manage and track many complex projects in parallel, structuring the actions of many people toward share outcomes.

  • Highly motivated, decisive, and results-oriented individual with the flexibility and creativity to excel in a rapidly growing and changing environment.

  • Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. An ability to influence for greater outcomes.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.
