ROLE SUMMARY

The primary components of this role are to:

Maximize day-to-day efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of the Office of the Sr. Vice President of Vaccine Clinical Research & Development (VCRD) Manage and lead all VCRD Leadership Team (LT) and Staff meetings, the Vaccine Clinical Review Committee (VCRC) process,  and the logistics of the subject matter expert training for VCRD Act as a key strategic sounding board to the Head of VCRD and the Leadership Team  across a breadth of strategic, operational, personnel & communications activities to support the growing global VCRD organization and portfolio Ensure operational execution of deliverables and special projects as identified as critical to the overall success of the organization

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

This role provides planning, development, execution, and improvement of VCRD overall strategy and operational management.  In addition, it provides scientific information and communication support to Head of VCRD.  This role is accountable & responsible for overseeing and ensuring execution of the following activities:

  • Acts as a key thought partner to VCRD SVP and LT around mission, strategic, and operational initiatives. Leads and/or supports key enterprise, divisional and/or departmental initiatives and objectives.  Coordinates with Leadership Team (LT) and Business Ops to help develop, enable, and implement overarching strategic agenda and priorities through business strategies, operational plans and key business projects.  Accountable for ensuring operational execution of the plan enabling the successful achievement of the defined strategic direction

  • Prepares reliable, high quality presentations, talking points, internal communications and correspondence that are aligned across VRD, WRDM and the Pfizer organization and contribute to Head of VCRD and LT’s productivity and performance, and effectively conveys key messages to intended audiences. Gathers relevant information and scientific references from internal and external sources for input into presentations and communications.

  • Manages library of VCRD slides on key topics

  • Management and Organization of Subject Matter Expert (SME) Training

  • Develops structure for SME training of incoming VCRD staff (non-SOP training)

  • Sets curriculum, organizes schedule, identifies trainers, sets up rotational schedule, tracks completed training

  • Manages and organizes training cohort US/ex US

  • Works with managers, Business Operations, and HR across the VCRD organization to understand timing of hires and coordinate for efficiency and consistency

  • Develops and executes orientation (organizational training) for all new global VCRD staff

  • Ensures schedule of meet-and -greets is developed for each colleague with input from manager

  • Develops and continually enhances VCRD LT meetings and agenda to optimize LT effectiveness. Manages VCRD LT, VCRD Extended LT (ELT), and VCRD staff meetings. Manages VCRC protocol governance committee to ensure best practices, optimal efficiency, alignment with relevant SOPs, and appropriate training and communication.

  • Colleague Development

  • Develops consistent guidelines for VCRD colleague development, including criteria for promotions

  • Develops and communicates a consistent strategy for work assignments and opportunities

  • Ensures non study/program development opportunities are offered across the organization

  • Develops consistent job descriptions, in collaboration with HR,  and ensures alignment of appropriate roles across vaccine programs based on resource needs. Ensures alignment of JDs with organizations external to VCRD. 

  • Acts as thought partner with LT to help shape and imbed desired organizational culture and enhance colleague engagement.  Assesses Pfizer Pulse Survey and Leadership feedback and develops and initiates action plans that are aligned with the overall VRD organization.

  • Facilitates development of VCRD LT goals and objectives, calibrates VCRD goals across VRD, WRDM, GPD, Vaccines Tetrad, and ensures consistent performance assessment across the org.

  • Partners effectively with HR and Business Operations to establish and maintain high performing organizational function through planning and management of organizational change, optimization of functional structures, roles, governance, and colleague engagement & communication

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree

  • Advanced Degree is desirable, in one of the disciplines relating to drug development, business management,  or organizational effectiveness

Experience and Attributes

  • 15+ years of experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry

  • Sound understanding of vaccine development process required.  Extensive knowledge and experience in clinical development highly desirable.

  • Strong scientific acumen

  • Prior experience in generating executive-ready materials highly desirable

  • Strong business acumen enabling successful articulation of linkage between business decisions and business objectives.

  • Strong project management, change agility and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both oral and written with leaders, colleagues, partners and customers.  Experience preparing and delivering creative and targeted presentations to intended audiences. 

  • Demonstrated skills and success in relationship building, negotiation and influencing.

  • Ability to anticipate situations and problems and take initiative & appropriate action.

  • Proven ability to define and lead projects, track and execute with quality and timeliness on complex programs of work.

  • Ability to effectively navigate the Pfizer organization to quickly and effectively solve problems and overcome challenges.

  • Demonstrated curiosity, creativity and innovation in approaches to business operations.

  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and pivot appropriately to demands.

  • Adaptive to work across different cultures and with a variety of leaders from different background and experiences.
