What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. We are seeking a scientist and analytical protein chemist with a consistent track record in biopharmaceutical protein support, scientific eminence and leadership and mentoring skills.

In this vital role you will be part of the Discovery Attribute Sciences group providing scientific and technical expertise to support early discovery research through to later stage molecule optimization and late-stage selection of Amgens pipeline of drug candidates. This position is an exciting opportunity to unlock the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing and delivering innovative human therapeutics.

  • Experience managing timelines and therapeutic projects
  • Experience managing other analytical chemists
  • Experience using analytical characterization techniques such as rpLC-MS, native-MS, capillary electrophoresis (and CE-MS), cation exchange (and CEX-MS), size exclusion chromatography (and SEC-MS) and biophysical techniques including, but not limited to hydrophobic interaction chromatography, differential scanning and fluorometric calorimetry, self-interaction spectroscopy and rheology.
  • Experience with rpLC-MS/MS to map and characterize post translational modifications such as deamidation, isomerization and oxidation
  • Experience generating, processing and using large analytical data sets for the application of biomolecule attribute and manufacturability prediction.
  • Experience using sensitive high-throughput, low material consumptive and predictive analytics would be an advantage
  • Develop collaborations with both internal and external partners. For example, clients in early research protein cloning, expression and purification; process development; university and external research institutes
  • Communicate (verbal and in written) scientific concepts and results
  • Work collaboratively with other scientists on multidisciplinary teams
  • Work independently in advancing projects and studies within required deadlines
  • Actively create or contribute to patent and publications
  • Keep current with field of expertise, participate and advance drug development, technologies and information services programs within Amgen
  • Demonstrate external scientific eminence in the form of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
  • Follow protocols and procedures, maintain accurate records in an electronic lab notebook, and generate quality data for use in drug development and regulatory filings

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 3 years of biopharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent experience

Or

Masters degree and 6 years of biopharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent

Or

Bachelors degree and 8 years of biopharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications
  • Educational emphasis in analytical characterization and predictive techniques to assess protein purity, molecular weight, stoichiometry, post-translational modifications, stability and manufacturability would be an advantage. Relevant experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a biopharmaceutical setting would also be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of statistical processing of data, including related software like RStudio and Jupyter Notebooks Excel, Spotfire, JMP or ArrayStudio
  • Knowledge of multiple mass spectrometric (MassLynx, MassHunter, XCalibur) chromatographic (ChemStation, Chromeleon), Astra (SEC-MALS/QELLS), Tecan scripts (automation), TA and NanoTemper (calorimetry) software would be advantageous
