Job Description:
The Sr/Manager of Strategic Alliances will be at the nexus of all critical alliance programs, helping frame up standards, process, and setting the pace, culture, and expectations with internal and external parties to drive successful new-age partnering in the next generation sequencing space. The successful candidate will work with and report directly into the Head of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances, partner closely with the Product Management and Product Development departments, as well as multiple other functions to implement and execute revenue and profit maximizing alliances with market leaders in multiple fields including assay prep and software applications and analytics. This person will work in tandem with the Product and Portfolio management teams to ensure synched internal and partner roadmaps to drive and sustain higher penetration in upstream and downstream application spaces. This individual will also instill best practices, invest in the creation of viable, sustainable process to enable repeatable successful alliance and development programs (expanding from large, singular programs to management of fully matrixed ecosystem of solutions to serve multiple market segments).

The role will drive the sustainment of critical joint development programs and other related investments in assets outside of internal efforts to support the creation of best-in-class product lines, customer experience, and growth in the core technology portfolio. Among other job responsibilities, this position requires in-depth understanding of the company's product development pipeline, best business development practices, processes to drive efficient program management. The person will exhibit effective communications skills, strong analytical thinking, and experienced conflict resolution and management. Candidate is the ultimate team player who influences above and around and back up, drives open dialogue, leverages differences, is an effective negotiator, and keeps the teams positive through even the most challenging times.


Details of the role can be broken down into three main areas:

Cross functional management, communication, and execution of critical flagship co-development program with partner (and eventually, full menu of partners through 3rd party ecosystems)

  • Ensure effective and timeline internal and external communication and coordination of partnership ecosystem strategy while setting culture of partnering with 3rd parties. Serve as the key point of contact for strategic partners, alliances, collaborations as well as support the Head of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances with the establishment of an Executive Joint Steering Committee with partner(s).
  • Drive organization and discipline, while removing roadblocks, escalating issues to senior leadership, to ensure timely execution of technical and business milestones. Provide effective channel to communicate and resolve conflict, resourcing gaps, shifts to program schedule, etc
  • Work closely with Business Development leads to contribute to term sheet drafting with established PoV of responsibilities, timelines, outcomes, metrics to measure success, and align on expectations for Program Management, Product Development and Product Management counterparts during implementation phases
  • Act is overall set of eyes for the executive team on current state of alliance health and progress on critical co-dev program.

Management and development of infrastructure to create a center of ‘partnering excellence' as well as related programs

  • Build out a multi-disciplinary alliance management team to support the continuum of deal types including but not limited to co-marketing, co-branding, Licensing (I/O), Distribution of all best-in-class hybrid workflows of internal and 3rd party products
  • Partner, adopt, and execute against any new marketing, business development, or development processes to streamline partnering process and enable efficient ecosystem of partners
  • Ramp up ability to support partners even further through the alliance team via Support or CommOps partners to help with any process implementation, training team for deep dive into products, tech or commercial summits with partners to ensure synched perspectives

As a strong partner to the Product Management team, the lead of Alliance Management will help optimize both customer and partner experience through the investment and implementation best-in-class hybrid solutions through diligent and comprehensive feedback

  • Through and, in partnership with, Product Management:
  • Gain VoC/VoP on current on-market partnership technologies to provide critical feedback to development team on optimal specs for co-development program
  • Collect intel, retrospective analysis, and feedback with appropriate stakeholders (external and internal) to ensure health of program continues to remain productive, trusting, and positive
  • Work with operations team to manage partnership supply forecasting, risk to inventory of components or critical materials, production of CoA (if relevant) and tightly forecasted supply of materials to support development activities


Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of partnership management, business development, and/or program management experience in life sciences industry required
  • Experience managing critical co-development, co-branding program is required
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed team environment and ability to yield high productivity in multiple teams in parallel is required
  • Strong track record of integrating and implementing critical 3rd parties into company is required
  • Mergers and acquisitions experience, licensing (i/o, OEM, Distribution, Supply, management is preferred
  • Executive presence and skill of influence

  • Strong conflict resolution skills


Education/Discipline:

  • Research experience in life science discipline, genomics, or hands on sequencing experience highly desirable
  • B.S. or M.S. in life science
  • MBA preferred
