Proposed Job Title: Manager, Clinical Site Contracting

Purpose:

Th Manager, Clinical Site Contracting is responsible for ensuring that contracts required for Clinical Studies are executed in an appropriate and timely manner. The Manager, Clinical Contracting works independently with minimal guidance from departmental management. In collaboration with Management, this position is responsible for implementing the clinical contracting strategy and ensuring the quality of all work products produced within their team. This includes Clinical Study Agreements, Investigator Initiated Study Agreements, master agreements, and all other contract types as applicable for the direct reports. Manages a team of Contract Coordinators responsible for CSAs and associated contract types. Position may have contract signatory responsibility for contracts as designated by AbbVie policies and procedures (delegation of budget authority grid, currently up to 1.0M).     

Responsibilities:

•The Manager, Clinical Site Contracting understands cost drivers associated with CSAs and associated contract types and drive negotiations that ensure fair market value, compliant agreements. Highly competent in negotiation, strategy and contracting business standards.
•Demonstrates a high level of outsourcing and technical competencies across clinical study agreements and therapeutic/functional areas and plays a key role in making decisions through careful evaluation of benefit/risk and provide leadership and guidance to direct reports in complex decisions.
•Communicate, liaise and train internal and external customers as well as suppliers on the contracting process and managing the life cycle of a contract. Demonstrate subject matter expert (SME) status and leadership by providing key strategic support and leadership in cross functional process improvement initiatives.
•Build, manage and develop staff. Provide expert level guidance and subject matter expertise to support, train and mentor direct and indirect reports. Plays a key role in developing strategy and providing guidance to team members for complex negotiations to maximize the value for R&D and ensure subject matter expertise is provided.
•Responsible for reviewing a high volume of contracts and associated documents, prior to execution, ensuring appropriate quality and compliance standards are met both internally and with the functional service provider. Resolve issues that may be identified in support of timely execution. Demonstrate qualifications needed to train and QC work on all contract types negotiated by direct reports.
•Demonstrate excellent communication skills and effectively present key information. Responsible for timely transparent communication of status of negotiations with key internal and external stakeholders. Plays a key role in working closely with TA/FA's, Legal, OEC and suppliers to resolve contract issues.
•Responsible and accountable for both the guidance and leadership of a team of 1 to 3 direct reports and oversight of external vendor, its staff (up to 10 indirect reports) and the vendor budget. Tasked with supporting the growth and development of direct reports. Plays a key role in the performance, development, and maintenance of effective collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
•Identify, lead and staff process improvement initiatives and/or strategic sourcing initiatives. Plays a key role in developing and implementing strategy for optimization of process with key research centers.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

List required and preferred qualifications (up to 10). Include education, skills and experience.

•BA/BS or equivalent related work experience is required; Degree in healthcare, legal and/or finance preferred.
•Minimum 6 years of extensive experience in research, industry or legal setting with pharmaceutical industry experience in clinical outsourcing contracting or finance is required. Higher years of experience required without degree.
•Must have demonstrated ability in negotiation and project management skills with the ability to coordinate across projects/program/timelines. Must have superior written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey overall engagement objectives and maintain open lines of communication between the internal stakeholders and the service providers.
•Ability to build internal and external relationships to effectively and independently provide leadership and mentoring to other team members to strategically drive the business and solve issues efficiently and mitigate risk.
