Position Summary:

We are recruiting a manager for a shared resource animal care facility. This newly built, state-of-the-art facility will provide an animal care resource for four Flagship Pioneering companies engaged in cutting edge therapeutics development; Each relies heavily on in vivo mouse and rat research to be performed on site. The facility manager will play a role in setting up the facility and in writing SOPs. Once the facility opens, the manager will oversee all aspects of day-to-day operation including scheduling and coordination with users, supervision of animal husbandry contractors, compliance, ordering of animals and supplies, record keeping, billing and budgets. A key aspect of this role is to serve as the main point of contact for users, contractors and vendors. The ACF manager will be an employee of Cellarity, Inc., and will work closely with leaders of the four companies to ensure smooth operation and to identify and resolve blocking issues that will arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of day-to-day operations of the animal care facility
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations; Maintain accurate records of all relevant information required for operation and compliance
  • Develop, implement and oversee specific SOPs for facility operations, husbandry and scheduling of equipment and experiments
  • Oversee spending and budgets; Manage procurement, purchasing and inventories of equipment and supplies; Work with leadership on annual budgets both projected and day-to-day, with regular review
  • Train, supervise and as necessary assist users in higher end skills and use of equipment such as hydrodynamic injection, stereotaxic injections, use of surgical scope, IVIS and others
  • Oversee animal care contractors
  • Serve as a member of the IACUC and as safety representative

Qualifications:

  • Training and extensive experience in life sciences and animal research; 10+ years of work experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotech sectors
  • Experience in vivarium operations, at least 5 years in roles requiring animal care, including demonstrated facility management experience; very strong rodent technical skills required
  • Good understanding of drug discovery and development, and of the role of animal research in the overall process
  • Relevant certifications strongly preferred, including one or more of the following: LATG, CMAR, Certified or Registered veterinary technician, as is experience or leadership in a GLP laboratory animal facility
  • Must be comfortable working prolonged periods in PPE; must be able to meet physical demands associated with the position, including lifting and carrying heavy items
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills
