Job Details

Manager: Senior Scientist, Cell Therapy PD
Department: Cell Therapy Process Development
Location: Brisbane, California

Sangamo Therapeutics is a genomic medicine company building value with cutting-edge work across four distinct but complementary technology platforms – gene therapy, cell therapy, in vivo genome editing, and in vivo genome regulation. Using its deep scientific expertise and proprietary zinc finger genome engineering technology, Sangamo is working to create genomic cures for patients suffering from severe genetic diseases for which today’s medicines can only treat symptoms. At Sangamo, we are passionate about transforming lives by building a robust, sustainable, differentiated, innovative, and high value genomic medicine pipeline that addresses patients with life-limiting conditions. Sangamo takes pride in being the first to edit endogenous human genes, first to treat patients with gene edited T cells, and first to treat patients with in vivo genome editing. Our top priority is to meet the needs of patients with commitment and compassion. Along with our commitment to science and to our patients, we also endeavor to create an inclusive environment that promotes and values diversity. Sangamo is a company where individuals can flourish, grow, and develop their expertise.

This role requires a good understanding of the process environment and its impact on the function and activity of biological product quality attributes. A successful candidate will be able to independently develop flow cytometry panels, cell viability/vitality assays, functional assays, and cell characterization assays. This role also involves working with laboratory scale process systems to evaluate critical process parameters influencing cell isolation, expansion, purification, transduction/transfection, and cryopreservation unit operations related to yield and quality. The candidate will perform in cross functional project teams to develop robust and consistent cell manufacturing processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead in design, development, and execution of in-process assays to aid in optimization of cell manufacturing processes
  • Develop robust GMP release assays for cell therapy programs
  • Transfer methods and training to QC staff
  • Provide process analytical expertise in the areas of phenotypic analysis, genomics/proteomics, and cellular assays that indicate functionality and cell characterization
  • Works effectively with research, manufacturing, quality, and analytical development teams
  • Applies knowledge of stem cell and immune cell biology to establish process robustness
  • Provide technical mentorship and development opportunities to junior staff
  • Perform data analysis using statistical methods and knowledge systems

  • Cell based assays, immunoassays, FACS analysis, primary cell characterization, differentiation assays
  • Western blots, ddPCR, multi-panel Flow cytometry, colony forming assays
  • Technology transfer
  • Must have a solid understanding of manufacturing of cellular therapies including cell separation, cell processing, gene editing, and cell culture techniques for primary cells and stem cells
  • Relevant skills include experience with immunological techniques (multi-panel flow cytometry, intracellular staining, cytotoxicity assays, ELISA, etc.) and molecular biology techniques (ddPCR, RT-PCR, mRNA and DNA prep)
  • Excellent organizational, written communication and oral communication skills
