Description:

The Senior Research Associate/Lab Manager help oversee numerous efforts that are involved in all operations of our Center.  This person will “wear many hats” to help coordinate and manage various day to day technical and administrative functions related to a large scientific lab. We seek someone that can think out of the box, and is a creative problem solver that has impeccable attention to details. This person will help develop solutions, tackle problems and help increase standardization and improved efficiency for many of our operations. Additionally, this person will ensure proper, and responsible operations of the laboratory by managing resources, maintaining equipment, creating technical and safety SOPs, and working closely and cohesively with all Center members. This person will execute a wide variety of tasks to support a diverse and unique platform of ongoing research projects. This position will be dynamic, interactive and multidisciplinary as well as exciting for the right candidate.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help oversee our BUA, RUA, CUA, and chemical inventory
  • Investigate new lab equipment for our center
  • Oversee and coordinate ordering of scientific reagents and supplies across the Center
  • Oversee the maintenance of an organized, clean lab environment
  • Ensure lab equipment is in working order and is properly calibrated
  • Develop laboratory SOP and ensure safety standards are maintained within the laboratory
  • Develop better management and organization within our Center
  • Work closely with facilities to maintain infrastructure and scientific equipment
  • Work closely in a team with a junior lab aide to tackle problems or issues as they arise
  • Work closely with our executive administrators and scientific leaders
  • Interact with other industry and academic scientists
  • Occasionally ship reagents or items to external collaborators

JOB REQUIREMENTS and EXPERIENCE:

  • BS/ BA in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in laboratory research. Strong preference is given to those with experience in molecular biology, cellular biology, neuroscience, and related fields and those with familiarity of laboratory techniques listed such as western blot, DNA transfection, immuno-cytochemistry, qRT-PCR, Sanger sequencing, cloning, microscopy, virus prep, automation, and/or cell culture
  • Experience maintaining research regulatory documents (SOP, IRB, IACUC, etc.)
  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrates creativity and independent judgment
  • Has exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others in a collaborative and flexible manner
  • Must be adaptable to unexpected changes and possess strong organizational, verbal, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with industry and academic partners
  • Ability to multitask well
  • Ability to handle confidential/sensitive information and exercise good professional judgment.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work effectively under general supervision
  • Translate the organization’s vision and values into day-to-day activities, behaviors, and decisions
  • Desire to contribute to an overarching goal of curing neurodegenerative disease
