Day One Biopharmaceuticals is an emerging, mission-driven, drug development company intentionally designed to identify, clinical evaluate, and successfully commercialize novel treatments for pediatric oncology patients, and ultimately to expand those benefits to patients of all ages. We are a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing and commercializing targeted therapies.


Day One was founded to solve a critical unmet need: children living with cancer are being left behind when it comes to the development of new cancer therapeutics. Our name was inspired by the “The Day One Talk” that physicians have with patients and their families about an initial cancer diagnosis and treatment plan. Together, we aim to re-envision cancer drug development and redefine what’s possible for people living with cancer – regardless of age –ng from Day One.

SUMMARY: 

We are seeking a Product Team Leader (PTL) to lead one or more cross-functional clinical-stage development projects. The PTL will collaborate closely with a cross-functional core teams of research, clinical development, and commercial leaders, as well as with Day One’s executive leadership team (ELT), in order to drive integrated strategic portfolio planning and focused execution for the program(s) from early clinical development through approval and launch.

The right candidate is an independent and flexible team leader who best performs in a fast-paced, dynamic, cross-functional, and mission-driven environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Holds primary accountability for the forward progress of Day One’s development programs, as measured by the achievement of milestones, meeting timelines, and other key performance indicators defined by the ELT and the Product Team (PT).
  • Working closely with functional leaders and relevant sub-teams, leading the PT in development, evolution, and execution of an integrated global strategic project plan, including scientific, clinical, regulatory, CMC, commercial, and corporate/business considerations.
  • Securing LT endorsement of the integrated project plan.
  • Leading the PT in developing and meeting the requirements of the relevant target product profiles
  • Working with the Project Manager to create and maintain an integrated program timeline detailing the development paths to registration across treatment settings and geographies
  • Working with the Project Manager to monitor team goals and team effectiveness
  • Working with the PT and the Project Manager to ensure timely execution of the project plan within allocated budget.
  • Anticipating major risks to achievement of key deliverables and putting appropriate mitigation plans in place
  • Leading the PT in development of cross-functional program budget drivers and Long-Range Plan (LRP) assumptions
  • Performing integrated scenario planning/assessment for the development plan
  • Working with medical affairs and the commercial organization on scientific messaging and competitive positioning
  • Representing the PT on the product launch team for DAY101
  • Supporting the commercial organization in forecasting, launch, and portfolio planning efforts

  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • N/A

  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: 

  • Advanced degree (e.g. MS, MD, PhD, PharmD) in life sciences or commensurate experience
  • 10+ years of industry experience in drug development, including a comprehensive understanding of early- and late-stage non-clinical and clinical drug development, as well as regulatory requirements; 5+ years of cross-functional project leadership in oncology drug development.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing considerations of small molecule therapeutics  
  • Experience partnering with commercial counterparts, and a demonstrated understanding of and appreciation for commercial requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate data, assess strategic alternatives, and forge alignment of functions and executive management across business objectives, development strategy, and operational plans
  • Track record in leading teams to strong results in a matrix environment and demonstrated skills in motivation of teams
  • Ability to cultivate excellent cross­-functional collaborations
  • Strategic thinker with strong decision-making and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with a proven ability to work with executive management to obtain endorsement of development plans and budget/personnel support
