The Senior Accountant is responsible for revenue and cost accounting, month-end close, equity administration, AP processing, assisting with SEC reporting, and participating in SOX compliance. The Senior Accountant interfaces with all levels of the Company, including individuals outside of the organization.

Primary Job Functions

  • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations for various month-end close processes, including clinical trials, CMC accruals, preclinical studies, and similar related accruals, fixed assets, leases, payroll, AP accruals, equity activities, prepaids, etc.
  • Manage semi-monthly payroll and reporting
  • Manage product revenue and gross-to-net accounting analysis
  • Maintain inventory standard costs and ensure proper reporting and valuation
  • Works in a team-based environment to issue timely, accurate, and complete financial statements on a monthly basis
  • Provide support for external financial audits and tax reporting
  • Supports SEC reporting, including forms 10-Q and 10-K
  • Supports SOX 404 compliance processes
  • Equity administrator for stock option and ESPP plan
  • Supports AP processes, including vendor setup and clinical trial and manufacturing invoice processing
  • Manages contract purchase order process
  • Responsible for various federal and state tax filings, including Delaware franchise tax, California sales and use tax, FIN 114, and San Diego property tax filings
  • Assists with ad hoc projects and prepare responses to various requests for information

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting or related discipline
  • Preferred active CPA license
  • 5+ years related experience in life sciences
  • Preferred 2-3+ years experience in public accounting
  • Experience with public, commercial drug development
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to approach others tactfully, focusing on resolving issues and maintaining confidentiality
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong contributor in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to successfully meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to adapt and work in a quickly changing environment, managing competing demands and changing approaches or methods to fit the situation best
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to synthesize complex or diverse information from data, policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and accounting/financial systems
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • This role can be based in Los Angeles OR remotely in the U.S. with travel to Los Angeles as needed
