The Director of Finance is a key contributor in leading a dynamic financial organization dedicated to financial integrity and focused on supporting the Company’s growth strategy. They will be responsible for financial reporting, accounting operations, financial systems, and controls, including but not limited to SEC, auditing firms, tax preparers, and asset managers.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the accounting operations team, ensuring high performance and fostering individual and team development
  • Responsible for supporting and enhancing a collaborative, innovative, and financially disciplined organization
  • Ensure the finance organization delivers timely financials in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure the Company has adequate, documented internal controls for SOX compliance
  • Effectively manage tax compliance, financial operations, payroll, purchasing, and treasury
  • Lead the FP&A function through budgeting, close, and long-range planning processes
  • Participate in partnership/acquisition activities, as applicable
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes and systems
  • Support the CFO in managing key stakeholders, including investors, executive management, Board of Directors, external auditors, investment bankers, and sell-side research analysts

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • BS / BA in Accounting or Finance; MBA preferred
  • CPA required
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive leadership in life-science accounting and finance, including 5+ years in public accounting
  • Experience with commercial(izing) life sciences, inventory management, and cost-of-products sold is required
  • Experience with product revenue and gross-to-net accounting
  • Strong financial (IT) systems experience, including ERP implementation and management
  • NetSuite, ActiveDisclosure, Bill.com, and Shareworks experience preferred
  • Experience with SEC compliance issues of a public company
  • Significant experience with partnership/acquisition accounting
  • Experience managing the financial operations and reporting of a biopharma company through drug launch and exposure to bio/pharma revenue recognition issues is strongly desired
  • Detailed knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, including Section 404, and an ability to drive the Company’s compliance with all relevant accounting and certification requirements
  • Strong technical acumen and well versed in U.S. GAAP, and SEC reporting
  • Excellent business and analytical skills with a high degree of intelligence and creativity
  • Well-rounded technical, financial skills balanced with sound business judgment and the ability to assist other leaders with non-financial backgrounds
  • A proven manager who has hired, trained, motivated, and impacted the results, culture, and strategic direction of a Company
  • Proven track record of effective people management
  • Significant demonstrated ability to apply “best practice” business process improvement and financial controls
  • Tireless work ethic
  • Tenacious, with the emotional intelligence to know when to push harder and when to look for alternative approaches
  • Confident and self-aware with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Capable of quickly establishing credibility
  • Unquestionable integrity and personal ethics
  • Excellent organizational awareness and savvy in developing cross-functional relationships
  • Hands-on approach and meticulous attention to detail
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • This role can be based in Los Angeles OR remotely in the U.S. with travel to Los Angeles as needed
