Animal Care Tech, Night Shift
We are looking for an Animal Care Tech to provide support to Vivarium Operations in regards to full-time emergency coverage to address flooded rodent cages in all rodent facilities including facility alarms at Zebrafish aquatic facility at New York Medical College, Valhalla Campus.
The primary responsibility of this role will be to respond to flood alarms from 8 pm to 4:30 am, to include a ½ hour unpaid meal break, on weekdays and weekends (5 days to be determined) in all rodent facilities on Tarrytown’s campus. In addition, this individual will be responsible for responding to facility alarms at our Zebrafish Aquatic Facility at New York Medical College, Valhalla Campus.
Carry REGN issued phone during scheduled work hours
Respond within 30 minutes to defined alarms as they occur throughout campus
Alarm response includes, but is not limited to:
Search room for flood(s)
Move animals to clean, dry cage using handling SOPs
Administer basic veterinary care i.e. drying off animal, use of heat lamp, provide gels etc.
Clean water from floor, racks and ATS
Complete Sick and Dead Cards as needed and make VelociView entries
Check rack(s) for proper water function, including water valve (replace if needed)
Remove dirty caging, carcasses and materials from room
Respond after scheduled shift hours to alarms and emergency needs
Fill out alarm reports and documentation as needed
Contact Vivarium specific point person or Manager for non-routine or emergency situations
While not attending alarms, other responsibilities may include:
Stocking Personal Protective Equipment and other Vivarium specific supplies outside animal rooms
Loading Dock duties such as sorting out inventory
Ancilary loading dock duties as assigned
Preparing cage set ups and/or perform other Clean Cage Wash preparatory duties
Staging of supplies
Reading RODAC plates
Stocking food room and maintenance of room
Interface with REGN Security as needed and/or required
Interface with REGN Facilities as needed and/or required
To be considered for this role, you should have reliable transportation to Tarrytown/Valhalla and be able to arrive within 30 minutes of alarm. This position requires working closely with animals, some noises may be associated with this position. You must be able to follow established policies, guidelines and procedures within the Vivarium. Knowledge of Vivarium husbandry and operations and basic knowledge of Animal Welfare laws and regulations of research animals is required. Basic understanding of biosecurity and facility traffic pattern is helpful. This position requires cleaning and sanitation and the ability to work with large volumes of water. Ability to lift 30 pounds is required.
