The Senior Manager, Contracting & Pricing oversees all non-government customer contracting activities, chargeback process, gross to net forecasting and leads a team that assists in accomplishing required activities. This position is responsible for conducting contract analytics (pre-deal to post deal performance assessment), providing account manager contracting support, reporting, management of the pricing committee process, managing the bids and contracts life cycle from proposal to contract to rebate processing. This position is also responsible for collaborating with the head of Contracting & Pricing and designated attorney to finalize agreements. This includes review of all revisions to agreements, identifying all legal, financial, and regulatory risks, providing alternate mutually acceptable positions, and obtaining designated approvals from appropriate Avanir stakeholders. The Senior Manager, Contracting & Pricing is additionally responsible for managing the chargeback process and chargeback agreements between Avanir and external customers– including state and federal government agencies. In addition, the position oversees the forecasting of gross to net and modeling of pricing scenarios. The Senior Manager, Contracting & Pricing leads a team and ensures all activities align with managed markets strategy and corporate policies.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead team and oversee applicable functions performed by third parties
  • Conduct pre-deal and post deal contract analytics in order to give Avanir a competitive advantage in negotiating and executing contracts
  • Support account managers in contracting process including analytics, negotiation and document management
  • Manage pricing committee function
  • Ensure reporting is in place to support effective decision making by all stakeholders
  • Administer all department processes for non-government pricing activities including the contracting process throughout the contract life cycle, establishing appropriate processes and controls and ensuring compliance with all corporate policies and procedures
  • Oversee third-party vendors to ensure performance meets agreed to expectations, policies and SOPs
  • Oversee forecasting of gross to net and modeling of various scenarios to enable the business to make informed decisions
  • Oversee contract rebate processing, maintain of contracts status log and archive files
  • Manage the Chargeback Analyst and process
  • Lead price change process

Education/ Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree required
  • 10 to 12+ years of experience in managed care contracting or equivalent experience. Understanding of pharmaceutical coverage and reimbursement preferred.
  • Ability to develop and interpret complex financial models to evaluate impact of managed care contracting scenarios
  • Demonstrated ability of creating and reviewing complex pricing and contractual agreements
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office tools with a focus on Excel
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team as well as lead without direct authority
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross functional organization
  • Track record of success

Physical Requirements:

This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and frequent walking. Daily use of a computer, phone, office equipment and other computing and digital devices is required. May be required to stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities. Some local travel may be necessary, so the ability to travel by plane, operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Driver’s license and/or effectively navigate public transportation is required. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee must be able to read and respond to interoffice communications as well as effectively participate in meetings. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to lift up to 20 lbs., pull, push, carry, handle or feel. The employee is required to carry, handle items, reach with arms and hands, to stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. Mental demands may require prolonged concentration, reading comprehension, understanding and interpretation of concepts, ideas and philosophies.  The physical demands of the position described herein are essential functions of the job and employees must be able to successfully perform these tasks for extended periods.
