The Department of Protein Science is seeking to hire a highly motivated individual at the Senior Research Associate level to work at the interface between the protein sciences team and an early-stage in vivo research team, evaluating potential therapeutics for rare genetic disease indications.

Applicants should have experience in basic histologic techniques and protein biochemistry. Candidates with experience performing protein purification/characterization as well as in situ hybridization assays, imaging and confocal microscopy are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, tech savvy, a critical thinker, and able to work both independently as well as in a team environment.  In addition, the candidate should possess excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.  

Duties

Purification of tagged/untagged proteins from bacterial and mammalian sources

 

Characterization of purified proteins using a variety of analytical tools

Developing and performing immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization assays•

 

Performing basic histologic techniques (including but not limited to): fixation, embedding, sectioning and staining

 

Design, execute, interpret experimental results with documenting work in Benchling

 

Prepare slides, propose solutions and present results at project team meetings

Identify and implement new technologies or improved approaches in protein sciences

 

Skills

Protein purification utilizing either Akta Pure or Avant platforms

Familiar with Unicorn and ChemStation instrument software.

Analytical protein biochemistry methodology--SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting, ELISA.

Epifluorescence and confocal microscopy•

Image analysis 

Assay development

Proficient with Image analysis software – Visiopharm, ImageJ, etc.
 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related scientific field and at least 6-8 years of relevant experience or Master's degree with at least 4-6 years of relevant experience.
