An Engineering Manager that will lead our regional California Team in the area of engineering and reliability for our manufacturing facility and enable growth and expansion worldwide. This person will monitor and coordinate the effective and efficient utilization of engineering resources (both internal and external) in CA along with ensuring the department effectively works cross-functionally with various other departments including other regional engineering teams. This position will manage a wide variety of engineering work which includes but is not limited to machine and prototype engineering, reliability engineering, proactive and reactive maintenance, capital project engineering and design, vendor and contractor management, equipment start-up and commissioning, equipment standard development, documentation organization, continuous improvement and implementing lean six sigma principles. Additionally, this position will manage engineers that directly support critical manufacturing and process development operations so will need to respond to critical requests in a swift manner to lead and solve investigations.  

 

This is an engineering manager that will get out on the floor with the team to help solve problems and implement sustainable solutions. Not only will this role manage the team and the requests but will manage various projects to improve the effectiveness of the team along with managing some larger capital expansion and improvement projects. This position will play a key role in the growth and expansion of our client’s operations by using project management and engineering best practices. They will be tackling diverse and challenging problems both at the manufacturing scale, process development, and new capital project build levels.

 

The initial focus will be placed on supporting the ramp-up of our scale-up operations and small-scale manufacturing at the Emeryville manufacturing facility and improving the engineering intake process to better respond to requests that come to the team. This role will also be a key project team member in the move and commissioning of our operations at a new and improved location in the Bay area. This person will have experience directly managing an engineering team and maximizing the value from the team utilizing strong leadership skills. This person needs to have experience with capital project engineering and starting up a new manufacturing line and handing that over to the owner of the operation. 

 

The ideal candidate will have strong technical fundamentals, project management skills, capital and manufacturing engineering experience in building and improving manufacturing capabilities to enable efficient company growth. Experience and skills to safely manage and oversee contractor work on electrical and mechanical systems along with the ability to travel to various vendors, contractors, manufacturing sites to support their projects. They must also be willing to roll up their sleeves, when needed and have a mindset oriented towards flexibility to meet a growing organization’s needs in a fast-paced startup environment.

 

 

Qualifications…

·         B.S in chemical engineering with at least 7 years of relevant experience or equivalent

·        At least 3 years of experience managing a team of engineers

·        At least 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment

·        Experience working in a fast-paced pilot and process development environment

·        Green Belt certification and other Lean Six Sigma skills that have been demonstrated; or equivalent 

·        A self-starter attitude that drives you every day to get your work done with minimal oversight

·        Experience leading, managing, and executing design/build capital projects (value >$1MM), with proven ability to translate engineering goals into solutions that meet scope, schedule, and cost

·        Experience effectively managing vendors, contractors, and 3rd parties to help maximize the output and quality of an engineering group

·        Understanding and appreciation of industrial controls and electrical systems in order to integrate and trouble machinery controls

·        Proficiency reading and editing detailed process, electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics

·        Ability to be scrappy and work in a fast-paced environment while practicing sound judgment

·        Excellent interpersonal skills, leadership, communication, and organizational skills

·        Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% time
