The Opportunity

The (Senior) Director, Organizational and People Development will play a key role in creating and executing talent strategies that will result in developing and retaining our great talent who will deliver on our mission: Leading the way to better medicines through predictive models that integrate machine learning and biology at scale.

This role will be based in South San Francisco, although we will consider hybrid or remote work models. In collaboration with the executive team, the (Senior) Director, Organizational and People Development will be an innovative leader with vision on all aspects of organizational and people development, including leadership and management development. You will design, develop, and implement strategic learning and development and change management initiatives. You will create and lead mentorship programs to facilitate people’s career development, in alignment with the company’s rapid growth. In this newly created role, you’ll have an opportunity to bring in your expertise, leadership, and ideas to shape the evolution of the organization’s development strategy and culture for great impact on the organization and its people.

You will be joining the founding team of a biotech startup that has long-term stability due to significant funding, yet is very much in formation. You will have the opportunity to accelerate people and organizational performance that promote the continued growth of our dynamic company by primarily focusing on the following areas:

- Collaborate with the leadership team to develop organizational and people development strategy, in alignment with the business strategy
- Bring leadership and strategic direction on career development, coaching, mentoring, succession planning programs and use of behavioral assessments
- Lead and collaborate on individual development plans for each team member, and help to develop and coach team members
- Offer consultation across all functions on learning and development, and advise on appropriate learning strategies and programs to achieve business objectives
- Partner with People Ops team and managers on organizational development initiatives such as performance management, talent management, competency development, and organizational effectiveness
- Assess learning and development needs and deliver development programs that will optimize engagement, performance, and retention
- Implement metrics that measure the effectiveness of OD and L&D initiatives
- Identify and recruit subject matter experts and vendors to develop and deliver leadership development and other learning programs
- Oversee implementation and management of learning management system
- Help lead change management initiatives, providing expertise, insight, project management, and delivery of change


About You
- 10+ years of experience leading Organizational and People Development, Learning & Development or equivalent Talent Management function
- Strong leadership and strategic planning skills to collaborate, build rapport and trust among all collaborators in the organization
- Significant experience driving L&D strategies and initiatives in an organization, preferably in Life Sciences and/or Technology
- Experience in design of strategies and plans for career development, leadership development, coaching and other organizational development initiatives
- Ability to understand business needs and to translate needs into high-quality learning solutions within broader context of organization’s success
- Collaborative approach to working with leaders and cross-functional teams to determine organizational and individual needs
- Experience in project management and facilitation
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills: respectful, good listener, ability to collaborate with people across different functions
- Data driven mindset and demonstrated ability to measure and evaluate success of programs and implementations
- Excellent judgment and a high level of integrity and work ethic
- Self-motivated, proactive with demonstrated ability to take initiative and solve problems
- Demonstrated ability to thrive and perform in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, and to manage multiple priorities
