The Impact You’ll Make

• Influence - Perform a leading role in the strategic development of Recursion's genetic engineering capabilities. You will have the opportunity to lead numerous projects.
• Scale - Optimize approaches to genetically manipulate human cells to enable large-scale screening by developing creative solutions to complex scientific and technical challenges.
• Communicate - Independently prepare impactful presentations to senior leadership teams and partners.

The Team You’ll Join

You will join the Systems Biology group that is focused on leveraging all available genetic engineering tools and approaches to create large datasets fit for machine learning. Your work will directly expand Recursion's ability to screen, develop, and validate treatments for human disease. This will require you to apply your expertise in genetic engineering to develop novel approaches suitable for large-scale experimentation and automation.

Reporting to the Director, Systems Biology, you will be supported in your work by a core group of Biologists and Data Scientists. You will also collaborate cross-functionally with other biologists, data scientists, engineers, cell culture experts, automation experts, and product managers and learn new skills in a highly matrixed and multidisciplinary company.

The Experience You’ll Need:

• Experience using CRISPR-Cas9 to manipulate the whole genome of cell cultures and knowledge of CRISPRa, CRISPRi, and other variants
• Experience knocking in exogenous DNA to target regions of the genome
• Experience leading cell-based assay development
• Experience leading projects, with tangible examples, that aligned with company strategies
• Experience independently guiding projects while providing scientific guidance and career development to research associates and scientists
• Experience leading cross-functional project teams in a dynamic environment
• Ability to articulate scientific data and strategic messages to all partners and team members
• Clear record of skills in writing, communication, and formulation of scientific arguments

The Experience that is nice to have:

• Experience with other genetic manipulation techniques - TALENs, siRNA, etc.
• Experience with primary mammalian cell culture, and/or neuronal or iPSC cell culture
• Experience with high content imaging, automation, and high throughput screening
• Familiarity with data analysis and graphing software, such as, Cell Profiler, ImageJ, Graphpad Prism, or Spotfire. Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Google Apps, Lucid, and other organization and communication tools
• Coding skills in python and/or other languages

Senior Scientist Level

• Minimum 4 years work experience in pharma or biotech industry required
• Ability to independently drive projects from the bench
• Advanced degree (MS / PhD) degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related Life Science field

Principal Scientist Level

• Minimum 8 years work experience in pharma or biotech industry required
• Proven track record of delivering on high profile projects
