Scientist/Senior Scientist - Myeloid Cell Biology

Summary

The Biology team is seeking an energetic and highly motivated myeloid cell biologist to develop new therapies for various disease settings, with a primary focus on cancer. Scientists at Arcus work closely with colleagues within their team and across the organization in a highly collaborative environment that fosters the development of transformational therapies for cancer patients. The successful applicant will be expected to provide in-depth knowledge, technical expertise, and insights into myeloid cell biology as it relates to Arcus drug development programs

Responsibilities

Candidates will be expected to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team to deliver time-sensitive objectives for drug discovery projects. Scientists will contribute intellectually as well as experimentally to plan and conduct experiments, interpret the results, and present their findings in both internal and external forums. These contributions will be utilized routinely to devise and implement a variety of in vivo and in vitro model systems to build an in-depth understanding and biological dataset surrounding Arcus drug targets and drug candidates.

Qualifications

  • PhD in immunology or immuno-oncology with an emphasis on dissecting the mechanisms of myeloid cell activity (postdoctoral training is a plus). For Sr. Scientist applicants, at least 3 years of drug discovery experience in a high-quality industry environment is required.
  • A demonstrated ability to advance scientific projects as evidenced by consistent publication of peer-reviewed journal articles and presentations or posters at scientific conferences
    • A strong understanding of current literature on myeloid cell biology and its implications for immuno-oncology. Familiarity with bioinformatic databases to understand immune activity is preferred.
  • Experimental proficiency in various aspects of myeloid cell biology, including but not limited to:
    • Methods to isolate, differentiate, and stimulate primary myeloid cells from both human and mouse peripheral blood then measure their subsequent activation
    • Expertise related to common immunological assays, including 10+ parameter flow cytometry panel design and additional methods to assess myeloid cell functionality
    • Implementation of co-culture assays to determine the suppressive or immune-stimulating activity of myeloid cells on lymphocytes
  • Practical experience with mouse disease models and isolation/culturing of ex vivo cells from tissue. A working knowledge of mouse syngeneic tumor models including the characterization of tumor-immune infiltration is highly desired.
