General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a resourceful, results-oriented, integrative thinker for a role that is responsible for the management of medical publications. The Senior Manager is responsible for interacting with internal SAGE departments to lead publication plan execution and management for assigned therapeutic areas (TA) while ensuring compliance with good publication practices and scientific merit of medical publications.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute a medical publications tactical plan for assigned therapeutic area. Work with internal and external authors in actively facilitating the development of abstracts, posters, and presentations for scientific and clinical meetings.

  • Manage medical writing and external vendor activity to ensure timely delivery and submission of publications.

  • Ensure consistent adherence to publications policies in accordance with good publication practices through active management of publications process.

  • Lead cross-functional publication efforts in alignment with product development teams to ensure prioritized submission and publication of data to address unmet educational needs.

  • Manage assigned publications spend to ensure accurate accounting and reconciliation to available budget.

  • Collaborate in a highly matrixed organization with HEOR, Communications, and Field Medical teams to translate available data publication evidence into medical communications and educational resources.

  • Represent Medical Publishing and assigned publications teams at organizational cross-functional team meetings by actively contributing to discussions, and share important information with Medical Publishing staff and colleagues. Lead/participate in department initiatives/activities that impact medical publishing practices/processes.

  • Implement systems or solutions to enhance efficiency, eliminate redundancy, reduce expenditure, and guarantee quality. Responsible for compliance with applicable corporate policies and procedures.

  • Ensure fair balance and integrity in development of medical publications.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in a clinical and/or scientific background.

  • 4+ years in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical environment required. Prior women’s health, critical care, epilepsy, neurology, and/or psychiatry experience is preferred.

  • 1+ years’ experience in managing medical communications efforts in a highly matrixed organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must possess excellent communication and project management skills, as well as a proven ability to effectively collaborate and influence decision-making across multiple levels of an organization.

  • Must be able to actively manage and track complex projects in parallel, structuring the actions of many people toward share outcomes.

  • Knowledge of relevant external guidelines related to industry publications and current standards of good publication practice (GPP3).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

  • Strong capabilities and experience with resource allocation and vendor management.

  • Ability to interpret and present complex medical and scientific data.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Understanding of pharmaceutical clinical development and product life-cycle management.

  • Prior women’s health, critical care, epilepsy, neurology, and/or psychiatry experience is preferred.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.
