Applications Software Development Engineer

Pacific Biosciences is looking for an experienced Applications Software Development Engineer to develop bioinformatics applications components to be used in a software package that runs genomics analysis software on large computer clusters.  These applications will be used by Pacific Biosciences customers and by internal engineers and scientists at Pacific Biosciences.

In addition to excellent technical and problem-solving skills, the successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communications skills to be able to interface with product managers, customers, and engineers and scientists from a range of technical disciplines.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop bioinformatics software applications for data management and data analysis.  These applications will be part of a package of software tools that will be used by Pacific Biosciences' customers as well as by internal scientists and engineers.

Requirements:

• Strong software engineering skills.
• Strong quantitative analytical skills, including demonstrated experience with bioinformatics software.
• Strong programming skills in at least two of these five languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Comfortable working in a Linux environment.
• Fast learner with broad interests in science and technology.
• Team player, detail oriented, comfortable learning about new technical areas and working with scientists and engineers from different disciplines.
• Masters or Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or similar technical discipline.
• At least 3 years' professional software engineering experience.
