What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will join our agile Research & Development Corporate Affairs team to craft narratives about our capabilities and expertise in R&D, how our scientists are creating new innovations, and why it is so important. Reporting to the Executive Director, R&D Corporate Affairs you will work with our scientists, drug developers, physicians and business teams to cut through the jargon and create content that is clear, compelling, and insightful. You will use your love of both science and language to develop meaningful stories that elevate Amgens position as a leader in scientific research and innovation and generate excitement internally and externally.

Your storytelling expertise will be leveraged for both external communications in the shape of articles for our website, social media, videos, executive presentation support, infographics but also to provide support for internal communications by crafting compelling narratives that support our strategy to engage staff. As well as being an accomplished writer, you will have a strong sense for trends to ensure what we are saying is relevant and is received in the way our audience wants to digest content.

  • Help Amgen to raise awareness of its world-class scientific capabilities through external and internal articles, websites, presentations, video scripts, speeches, reports, opinion columns, memos and other communications.
  • Collaborate closely with the R&D Corporate Affairs team and other key R&D partners to build and deliver strategic content plans.
  • Translate complex scientific content into stories that are both engaging and clear.
  • Collect and analyzing scientific data, monitor trends in R&D and be the scientific expert for the R&D Corporate Affairs team.
  • Support the development of content management processes, such as editorial calendars, that foster efficiency and continuous innovation.
  • Collaborate, direct and manage (where necessary) agency partners
  • Partner with our Amgen enterprise corporate communications team on content that is appropriate for Amgen.com and all employees to ensure content is planned, included in the corporate content calendar and is supported by media relations, social media or internal communications where appropriate.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of directly related experience

OR

Masters degree and 6 years of directly related experience

OR

Bachelors degree and 8 years of directly related experience

OR

Associate degree and10 years of directly related experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a science communicator, writer or journalist in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare sectors with outstanding writing skills
  • Bachelors Degree in life sciences, public relations, communications or journalism
  • Self-motivated and curious to learn and communicate about new scientific concepts
  • Ability to work proficiency with all levels of management, including senior executives
  • Meticulous, organized, and have experience managing complex projects across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to think quickly, analytically and creatively to accommodate a dynamic communications environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic, team player and self-starter; serious commitment to hard work and excellence
  • Social media and media relations experience highly desired
